OTR Driver (Edit: Marten Transport out of Wisconsin)

....we surely don't discredit the OP on this post , this is not unusual to hear about a company jerking their drivers around ,when the driver wants to resign .....would it be far off to say the company also put some dirt on the OPs DACreport also ? ....somthing to think about before hiring on any trucking company

 

you make good points snowlauncher they were very good about getting me home and other than collecting on detension pay because the moon and planets had to be lined up just right lol..my pay was in my acct. every payday.
the other positive i will make is they took good care of the truck mechanicly but if you wanted a clean truck you would be doin it yourself cause they wouldnt .
theyr insurance was hard to beat also .
the shorthaul miles and micromanagement were the deal breakers for me i guess but a month there told me why the mondovi terminal always had a hundred or so empty trucks sittin around .
also in my case my recruiter didnt have her facts strait so we were buttin heads before orientation was even over when the facts came out .

 

oh and when my last day rolled around they brought me right to mondovi where i cleaned out the truck ...sent my dispatcher a mess wishing him well to which i got no reply ...shook hands with the shop people and said goodbye .
they never messed with my dac either .

 

In a perfect world, drivers would not sign on with any of these so called big name or mega carriers and they would all disappear. They employ the vast majority of wannabe truck drivers or drivers that just have no business in trucking and thought it would be an easy way to make money when all else failed for them and they drive rates into the ground.

 

Sounds like it's not the WORST by what you describe, granted there are better, and maybe that particular terminal is sorely mismanaged. As far as the truck being dirty, If they wouldn't pay for a wash on a company truck, let it stay dirty. Ultimately the image of the company would appear that they keep dirty trucks. It sounds like the low miles would be the deal breaker for most.

 

In your perfect world I would imagine a lot of freight would not get delivered, resulting in companies starting their own fleets.

 

no definatly not the worst and may be a real good fit for some so felt oughta point out some of their positives ...the other thing i didnt point out is i told then when i signed on is that i like to run the tri state area of nyc ... i guess they thought that meant bringing my east coast loads to the rail in chicago and putting them on a train lol cause i never got east of bedford park ill .

 

And they would find the cost of trucking with safe, reliable drivers and safe, reliable trucks to be significantly higher than what they pay now for the mega carriers interested in filling seats as cheaply as possible to under bid the next mega carrier now wouldn't they?

 

Would they? It's hard to say. I bet the price of their products would go up.

 

They would probably go up if rates went up regardless of why or who is benefiting from the higher rates. Does that mean you don't want rates in general to increase for fear the costs of the goods we haul may go up? If America has to pay a little more for their shampoo, toilet paper, or bottle of ketchup for me to make a little better living getting these products to them, then so be it. It's gone up for every other reason under the sun already anyway. Why should the cost of trucking it, or the cost passed on to the people actually doing the trucking, remain where it has or even dropped while the cost of the products went up?
