I spent my whole career [30yrs] at the same place driving local, same dedicated runs, same roads, but every day is different so I'm never bored.
I've never wanted to go OTR,my brother has run all 48 as an O/O and got burnt out.He now has a local job and loves it.
Having a family,I'd say take the local gig, your kids are only young once, enjoy them.

I thank all of you for the great feed back.

3 more days until I get my CDL and then I go talk to the guy and see just how good it is.

I know he (the owner) runs OTR sometimes so like one of the other guys said I could maybe ask him if I could do a run for him once in awhile just to get my feet wet.

I will definitely keep everyone updated on what I am going to do and how it goes with the test.

Hopefully I don't get screwed coming out of the DNV, its a hard right turn with a pole right at the curb, 4 lanes of traffic, and I have to go into oncoming traffic to get out of the DNV.
I ran the course 3 times in my school and it took 10mins to get out of the DNV waiting for all the traffic not to be coming.
I have heard of people failing because the imped traffic, because you can see the 2 lanes all the way down the street, but the on coming traffic where you have to go into their lane is a short bend, so they come around super fast. As fast as its clear by time you start pulling out something could be coming.

Thats the only part that I am nervous about. Other then that, my trainers said I am a natural behind the wheel.

    But again, thank you.
Really positive and helpful people here. Think I am going to like being apart of the trucker family. :biggrin_25525:

Well I don't care how long it takes for the traffic to lighten up wait and wait and wait, it's ur test so take ur time and one piece of advice is since u have to make a right turn, hug the left line so it makes it a lil easier making that right turn. Also if u can go in one day and actually see somebody testing so u can see how they turn out would also help u. Good luck ,take ur time and breath. ......

Awesome advice, thank you so much. I was told that by my trainers about hugging that outside line to give my self as much room as possible to make that turn.

    Thank you again. :yes2557:

It sounds like food service like a sysco, fsa, or mcclane. I've heard if you get your run done before the "allotted time" they compensate you for the whole time. But I can't imagine one of those types hiring a brand new driver with no experience. Don't be scared to turn right. There are lots of rights out there. Just take it wide and watch your mirror (or if your in a day cab for your test just look out the back window).
