The company wants you out of the truck as soon as possible. The company does not want you driving there multiple thousand dollar vehicle if you are quitting. No way they send you out for two weeks.

Large carriers look at the 2 week notice thing different ways.
Most will allow you to work the 2 weeks, BUT if they see anything negative in your attitude, or see any possibility that you may mess with equipment or get short timers syndrome, they will want you out of a truck ASAP.
Since you are currently not in a truck, they would probably rather you contact them before returning and let them know you are going to another job. This way they are not cleaning out a truck twice.
Since I see several florida drivers here I do want to pose a question. I am moving to Tampa in a week, I plan to stay with my current carrier for now. But I know that Swift has some decent paying dedicated runs in some parts of the country. Several I know of are salary positions. Anyone know if they have any of those in Central FL?
I ask this because I know 4 drivers in various parts of the country that all get the same salary doing these loads, and are home every day. And the salary is pretty good. -
First off, don't listen to people who tell you to do the easy thing and not give any notice before you leave your current company. A21CAV is right on, in that what matters is YOU doing the honorable thing, regardless of what your company does to its employees.
Second, I'll tell you what I did in a similar situation. Hopefully it helps some. Once I got an invite to orientation for my current employer, I talked to both my terminal manager and DM on the phone and let them know I'd been hired by a different company. I let them decide whether that notice would last two full weeks or less. I ended up working about a week, then the truck broke down. I managed to get to a terminal, turned the keys in, rented a car, and drove home. Easy peasy, and professional on both ends. My advice is to call your DM, be honest about your plans, and part ways. On the length of your notice, I'll disagree with A21CAV: If Swift wants you to work those two weeks and you don't, stay home and start the new job. This way, you've both given notice and done what's best for you and your family. Good luck.Oaker Thanks this. -
Take the new job. If they hire you, call Swift and tell them you won't be back. 5 minutes after you call, Swift won't even remember the phone call. Many companies fire drivers immediately when the give a 2 week notice; Swift probably isn't one of them, but there are plenty that do that. The 2 weeks notice, the new company might decide to put someone else in the truck instead of waiting for you. If you're a good driver, no company cares if you gave the last company a 2 week notice.
