Once you pass your CDL - your trainer will get you by your house to ensure you get what you might be missing/needed when you are assigned your truck. Normally once you are assigned a truck - you will get routed to your house so you can get all you need in the truck before you start rolling.
No worries - it will work out!

Thanks David, yeah, I took my map and GPS as well, I'm marking all the P/U and delivery stops on my GPS as favorites to give me a little help when I get out on my own.
Everything is good so far I guess, shifting this new truck is a far cry from those training freightliners, man everything is so close. The throw on this shifter is half of what the Freightliners were. Also had an issue splitting after 4th instead of 5th in the Kenworth. Once I figured out what I was doing, thing got alot smoooooother. lol -
Nah, I drug them out first day, I have nothing to hide. I'm using them for my benefit, I would feel funny screwing around with his GPS. Besides he's all good with it, good guy so far, lots of stories.

I good idea - get a note book(small one) and write down what you see.
I have one that I list all the customers I have ever been too and note: location, ease of entry, is there overnight parking or close t/s, will customer take early, close places to eat if needed. Things like this are invaluable being out here like we are.
If you put these into your GPS or Phone, they can stop working or (in my case) be stolen and you loose all your data.
I make each student note everything for (thier) future use!ricrey99, Hitman and teleman7587 Thank this. -
This thread is becoming one of my favorites, keep it up. I enjoy reading it every day there is a new post, I will be in your shoes someday... soon... I hope lol

Ditto on what Baritone said. I keep a notebook as well with directions and notes, load #'s, paid miles etc.... It will come in handy for you

Whew.....Alot has happened since my last visit lol. I'm currently sitting in the Days Inn, Middletown once again. I had an issue with my trainer and ask to be taken off his truck. I wont go into details about what transpired but I didn't feel I was going to gain the right (read correct) skills to obtain my CDL while out with him.
I am writing this only as a testiment to current and future students, Don't be afraid to bring attention to improper practices. Millis went above and beyond to find me a new trainer today and get me the training I expected. Another trainer named Chris, Ellen in BRF and of course, Bill in Trenton, made sure I was taken care of. Many thanks to all!!
After all, "This is Millis Transfer, we're the best, not like the rest", don't know where I heard that. lol Be Safe everyone!! -
Exactly what I do, when I walk into the shipper/receiver, I want to be as prepared as possible to answer anything that may come up.
This is how my book looks;
