Only been doing this since just before Turkey Day. Like the job so far, has its pros and cons but what job doesnt? I drive for SNI and i live in Omaha NE. Had myself 4 days off for Christmas. When i get to my truck after the break, i had a load to pick up in Hamburg IA, about an hour from home, it was headed for Wisconsin. I got to the shipper, copied all the numbers i found on my computer into my notebook, and of course i didnt have the super secret number they needed to know who i was, or who they were probably. Figured id go recheck my qualcomm before i bothered my dispatcher for the number. Made it about halfway back to my truck when i stepped on a patch of ice. Little slip, big POP from my knee, and down i went in a heap. Realized real quick that i was now wearingmy kneecap on the side of my leg! There i lay, on the ice, in more pain then i could have ever imagined, and noones around. After maybe five horrifying minutes, another driver got to the docks. When i heard him pop his brakes, and he told me to lay still while he got help, it was the best sound I ever heard!

20 minutes or so later, some employees had got me some blankets, and finally the rescue squad showed. Even after the morphine i couldnt believe the pain. Took some xrays, let me call my gal to come get me, and then they knocked me out. When i come back around my leg was straight and in a big ol brace. And it hurt slightly less. When my gal and some friends of ours showed up i talked to my dispatcher who said i would likely be out long enough that my truck would go to another driver. So my woman got to dig out and pack up all my crap while i layed in the car unable to help. So here i sit at home. Cant hardly move my leg on its own. Hurts like heck. Now i

Dang, man...that sucks. Hope you heal up quickly & get back to work. Good lesson there to always be aware of our surroundings...not just sketchy people, moving equipment, and overhead objects...but also the ground we are walking on. Injuries suck, but at least you were on the job so you should have SOME money coming in. When I broke my collar bone, I was home doing my own thing....6 weeks out of work with no income at all.

Sounds like you've got a good woman who is willing & able to help nurse you back to health...that's always a good thing, but don't milk it any longer than you have to. I know a guy can get spoiled being waited on hand & foot while he recovers from an injury, but eventually you'll have to get back to work and it just makes it that much harder to do if you've gotten used to the bedside service.

Good that it wasn't permanent. Always look down when walking in bad weather and ALWAYS look where you putting your feet when you get out of your truck and use the 3 point rule. I've been saved many a fall by hanging from one arm.
