I am from central NJ [Trenton]. I used to drove a truck in Europe almost 12 months [but those experience are not verifiable] So I finished my CDL A school last december. I have been looking for job, but nobody want to hire me, because of no experience. Can drive manual, air brakes, combination, for now I don't have any other endorsements I tried most commons companies like UPS, Fedex, DHL, Cream O Land, Sysco, McLane, waste management and a lot of more...But answer was usually NOT. I told them to take me to road test, show them I can drive, but they said NO I also saw offer to drive concrete truck, but I am not interesting for job like that. I would like to stay home every night or OTR, or dump truck, but I would like to prefer local job and home every night. Also a lot of companies are offering weekly home, but this is not working for me. I had offer from FFE to be weekly home and 8 weeks training [1 week orientation and 6-7 week with trainer] But I am not gonna spend 6-7 weeks with trainer, and for that reason companies like Swift, Werner, Prime.... are not gonna work for me. Only option I found at this time are: - Schneider OTR with 18 days training [7-10 days orientation and 7-10 days with trainer] - Central Transport local job, but I never hear good reviews, they are trash, like my friend told me, he used to work there So do you guys have any recommendation? Also big companies told me, they CANT hire me without 8 weeks of training, but Schneider CAN hire me without 8 weeks of training, so what is truth?
You cannot want home every night and then reject a Cement Mixer. Taint that hard to run one of those. Just splash water into them, drive to job, spin load off into hole in ground, water it off, go back for another or wait in the room with the others a while on the clock. Maybe a nap. Pick up time and half after 40 a week. Maybe 60. At 20.00 plus a hour in Jersey it should be very good.
Thank you for your reply, but I would like to drive tractor trailer or dump truck, but not those concrete trucks. It isn't about job, I just don't like concrete trucks. And to be honest, I didn't pay 4400 dollars to drive something I don't like and I don't want
FFE is 6 weeks over the road training but your trainer can bring you in early for an upgrade. I have known a couple that they said 6 weeks and 2 weeks later they were brought back for an upgrade. They had previous experience too, but they couldn't verify. We just got notified yesterday that they closed training due to the coronavirus.
Fair enough. I know enough about drivers that you will NEVER shoehorn anyone into something they don't want to drive. =) Its not my favorite activity wtih the exception of those wonderful old museum iron we had in my time. (Autocars and so on) no computer nanny anywhere.
Go work for swift you'll be clawing at the concrete job after that. If you have to compensate for what you dont have go work for central it will open up doors in a year
Should have taken the Central Transport job. Decent pay and in most cases, home every day. ~ Better accept a job soon because jobs are becoming hard to find because of the Coronavirus. ~ www.roadtex.com is headquartered in New Jersey and hires new cdl school grads. ~ FFE is closed, as @Jenn72 posted, but maybe Koolshot Expedited will hire you. They're owned by FFE and the terminal is in Burlington, NJ KoolShot Expedited | Temperature Controlled Delivery ... koolshotexpedited.com
