Its a recession. Alot of people are out of work now. Alot of people are looking for work for all the bathroom tissue they bought.
The reason most won't hire someone without experience is because they know they only teach someone to pass the CDL test. So most insurance company won't let a trucking company hire someone without experience. The big training companies can because the self insurance themselves. They take the risk on a new driver and pay the bill or any small accident. Thats also why they pay so cheap.
Right now is a difficult time to find a trucking job. My feeling is, it's much to do with liability. A driver catches Covid-19 then passes it to a customer or another employee, then the lawsuits start. The longer drivers procrastinate accepting employment, the more difficult it will be as the weeks or months pass by. That's my view of the current situation.
I was at FFE Lancaster school today for onboarding. Classrooms are open, students are being taught. I talked with Tim Finchem, the director, and he has no idea how the rumor that the school closed got started. They may not be taking as many students but they are open. We have lots of trainers out there too.
From my perspective I thought insurance was higher for a guy with no experience. Seems why megas are the only ones actively seeking new graduates. I would say take the offer with central get some experience then find something better. I know plenty will attest to the fact that all kinds of doors open up with the more experience you have. Long as you not out here hitting stuff. 6 mos Doors start to budge. 1year clean tons of good jobs pop up. 2years clean meets requirements for 90% of the industry. 3 years you can have just about any job you want long except for the companies that have drivers that refuse to retire and have a waitlist for new drivers.
Sometimes in life we have to do what we may not like to do, in order to get to do what we DO want to do. I don’t really see any company handing you a job on a silver platter, especially right now. Get an OTR job with what ever company will hire you, get at least 1 clean year experience. That mean no ticket, no accident, no other mishap. Then you get better job if want.
The CEO put out 2 or 3 days ago in his daily phone in message. That the school is not accepting new students. If it is different than I apologize.
