Military Trucking Jobs for Veterans - Up to $75,000 Yearly - US Xpress
Covid19 is altering my state in full daylight and dark of night each day almost each hour. Our Government has gone to war at the State and local level.
Trucking is going to be on the front lines essentially in battle. Its very possible you are going into harms way and get infected.
We are getting increasinly infected by traveling people. Bring in infections back to Arkansas and then infect their family and friends, in one case infected 10 people who forced their three universities to close infecting still more. Just last week.
All schools are closed now. Along with a hell of alot of other things as of this morning.
My ex a vet canceled all VA for the next 12 months minimum. We have lost two doctors due to being excluded by her cough and fever previous visit to the VA last week (As my driver this week)
As a trucker? Would I go out there? No. A part of me says yes lets go. But the increasingly severe limitations cropping up everywhere leaves truckers as the last and easiest path to infection in so many places with so many people constantly.
We have a jail here in Pulaski County. 9 Guards was quarantined wed am after testing positive. Everyone in that Jail stands to be tested and all visitors banned. All others like local laundry truck driver etc being screened coming and going.

FFE / KLLM is out of Jackson, MS.
They let you take home time wherever there is a terminal close by. They even have two terminals in Ca so your Ca CDL probably won't be a problem.tscottme, CreepingDeath, x1Heavy and 1 other person Thank this. -
Thanks everyone for the advice. I might end up going with Swift. I never considered them till now given my situation. They will hire me out California, then request a Courtesy Orientation transfer so I can drive from MS to Memphis, TN, 3 hour drive. And they will allow me to take hometime in MS and allow me to take the truck home since the nearest Terminal is in Memphis. They also have the VA apprenticeship Program. For those that dont know, this Is important because it means the VA will pay me on top of what Swift pays me for my first year. They say I'll get home for 2-3 days every 2 weeks.
x1Heavy Thanks this. -
I've got a few things going on right now so I'm in a bit of a rush. Neighbors of my in-laws *
(Where I currently live) are selling their house. I need a job offer before they put it on the market so I can pre approved and get that house before someone else snatches it up. That on top of the govt shutdown and not allowing me to transfer my CDL is really the driving force on what company I choose. I also wont go with any company that had contracts. As soon as things settle down and I go local I plan on doing that. Looking at Venture Express and Saia for local out of Richland, MS -
Wasted Thyme and Chinatown Thank this.

One driver went with Knight refresher and he was teamed with a Kold Trans driver for training.
Kold Trans is a refrigerated company owned by Knight. Kold Trans hires experienced drivers, so that means you won't be trained by a rookie. Maybe, you'll luck out and get a Kold Trans trainer.

The FMCSA should allow retired drivers to come back to work easily and new driver requirements reduced in this crisis. It could happen.
CreepingDeath Thanks this. -
What model is that tractor anyone?
(Not to side track anything please, just a professional need to learn...)
Wife used the VA money while with FFE and trucking school in her time. FFE elevated me to train wife and run team with her.
What they really wanted and lusted over was to elevate wife to trainer for the many females coming with the new autos then in those days. But no. Her years with the stripes in charge of marines was quite enough thank you. -
