yes so if you drive 10 hours a day it will only take 24 days but that would be in a perfect world. it usually takes about a month or so. i started at swift and i have no complaints and i sorta miss it their. what are your long term goals is the first question.

A month doesn't seem bad at all.

What does the trainer do while the student sleeps and the truck is sitting?

Three months is a tad long though I have seen some people who need more than that!

Training really goes by fast and personally I thought it was pretty fun. Your out there making money and driving and most of the responsibility falls on the trainer. There will be some times that you are very thankful that you have a trainer with you! Though driving isn't rocket science there are a lot of little tips and tricks that you will learn from your trainer that will make life out there so much easier on you. Its kind of like building a house. Anyone can swing a hammer and saw a piece of wood but there are a lot of little "know hows" and shortcuts you can learn from someone that will get the job done in half the time. Save you tons of money too!

If you are somewhat smart you can probably get by without a trainer but you aren't going to make money while you are trying to figure it all out and there will be a wealth of information that you will most likely will not get by going by yourself.

Yes Walstib and AmericanTrucker you two are the only exceptions I have ever seen and you guys had a good grasp on it before you went out there.

The trainer for the first week or so will sit next to you awake in the passenger seat. Once they are comfortable with your driving and feel you are capable then they will probably cat nap here and there back in the sleeper. Really depends on the individual student.

If you already have a Class A CDL, you go out for 30,000 miles with a trainer, 5-6 weeks, depends on how many miles a week you roll. It was 50,000, which I think it should be again. Thats at Prime Inc.

Depends on the company. Some will run trainer/trainee as a team after the first couple weeks. Other companies, the trainer will be in the passenger seat while the trainee is driving, then shut the truck down, and both go to sleep at the same time.

This is something to consider when choosing a training company, especially if you have trouble sleeping in a moving vehicle.
