Went to Gary In. to start driving. They have a stress test you must pass. The older you are the less your heart can pump.(blood pressure) I'm in good shape and didn't think I would have a problem.#### was I wrong.Seems they don't want older drivers. When my pressure went to 147 they said I failed.by their little chart I was only to hit 142.Bull.. Another man 8 years younger, was allowed 155 they kept him,an older man was allowed 132,he's gone also.I think these people suck.If I was a lawyer I'd sue the hell out of them.I've got the work history to prove I can do the job.Anytime Anyplace..

They must adhere to DOT medical guidelines. I would get them for age discrimination.

they are however, allowed to go beyond DOT medical guidelines.

They're allowed, if they wanted, to not hire people who smoke cigarettes, if they chose to.

But, blood pressure isn't indicative of working ability by any stretch of the imagination. I'd suspect it's a caveat made to our Health Insurance provider to maintain a lower rate.

Has to be insurance related, also DOT.

I'm 50, just had a recent check up. BP same as always. 120/70 plus or minus 2 or 3.

I'm a little confused... you say it's BP but, it sounds more like heart rate the way you are describing it.

Was this like "work well" test? Or a more medically oriented stress test like a treadmill and EKG setup?

Your right,it was heart rate.My mistake. At any rate it sucked.they didn't follow the discribed pre-work screen test at all.Trouble is the way they have it set up.It's tuff #### for the older drivers. And the Company just blame the doctors for the way the test is run and set up.I feel like it's a good thing.Don't want to work for such a bunch of butt heads anyway.

While I agree its BS. I do have to say that most the drivers i meet for Roehl are in their 50's i would bet theres more older ones then younger ones. but i do not agree with that heart rate crap.. its total BS... I'm 35 and sometimes i feel like a dang kid when in one of the terminals lol

They can raise the stakes but they have to be consistant. They can't have individual rules.

I don't see individual rules. These are rules developed to ensure the level of health of a person. They may even differ from men and women as well as age groups. Have you seen anyone come through orientation that was given different standards? Doubt it. What is written is followed. Agree with it or not.

Most of these older drivers don't need to pass the same test, but if they for some reason have an issue and are off for any amount of time they will need to go through the exam then to return to work.
