I have done quite a bit of oversize over the years. I always worked for
a company that had a permit guy that knew what he was doing.
I guess for me personally I would rather work for/with a company that
knows what they are doing.....especially when first learning the business.
I realize that being an O/O has some advantages.......but there are some
advantages to working for someone else. Being able to ask for advice before
loading the load is always nice.
I worked for a heavy haul company that seldom hauled legal freight.
When I first started I was pretty surprised at some of the rates the company charged.
Over time I learned more about the different things involved with moving some
of the loads we moved......I came to realize there is a lot to learn.

That’s why JB Hunt used to paint the back of their trailers yellow.
Years ago, some of the freight outfits wouldn’t even put a jump seat in the cab...
so the driver would know where to sit

Same reason that Schneider trailers have that little blue/white striped triangle on the bottom left of the left trailer doors. Or so I was told. Lol.

@kemosabi49 I’m an edumacated driver, I always backed under the end that had the yellow lights on the corners... but then when they started puttin’ those abs lights on, I’d have to get out and double check...

They also used to say that those Schnieder trailers had the blue and white stripes on them so the JB Hunt trucks knew which side to pass on. That was back when Schnieder trucks all did 55mph. At one time JB Hunt was the company everyone picked on like they do Swift now. It was common to hear in the evening CB chatter, someone say "look out! JB is fixin to back up!"Flat Earth Trucker, Tug Toy, God prefers Diesels and 1 other person Thank this.

When in a truck stop or other appropriate place, I always announce on CB, "look out everyone I'm backing up". Works every time. Always a bunch of smart comments.
