Having the dog is a slight hassle in the truck but great comfort. I carried my dog with me for 3 years. Best 3 years in trucking. It's like having a best friend on a foreign trip. You may feel out of place but at least you have your friend with you.

They've hired drivers from FL who said they didn't need to go home & then later demanded to get home every 2 weeks. Plus there isn't much freight keaving FL and it pays the company little or no profit.

Two carriers that MAY hire you out of south FL (as a beginning driver):

    Abilene Motor Express

    or

    Leonard's Express

Of those two -- I would probably choose Leonard's, first.

Don't call them first. Instead -- after you get your CDL -- I would go to their website, and do a COMPLETE APPLICATION -- FIRST.

    Then wait about a week -- & follow-up with a phone call.

Then -- ask about the status of your application.

Bonus points -- if you have tanker & hazmat endorsements before you fill out those apps.

Not sure what their pet policies are -- inquire within.

There are plenty of good local driving jobs, Lots of LTL in Ft Meyers. Many will offer a "refresher course", you have a cdl but zero experience. Home everyday with your dog is a plus. Save up cash, get experience and then reevaluate your situation in a year. Stay safe, and you can pick and choose on your terms where you want to go.

    STUDENT DRIVERS
Our training program consists of four weeks of paid training. This training period ensures that you have the knowledge and skills to become a successful over the road driver for our company. You can expect to be on the road for all four weeks with a trainer to assist and instruct you. After the training is complete, you will be evaluated by completing a behind the wheel road test to determine your readiness for solo driving.

Here's a local, home-daily, great-paying LTL carrier job that's currently hiring in your area -- and also accepts student drivers:

XPO Logistics -- local, home-daily LTL work -- has their own CDL school, also

With this job -- you would need to acquire all the relevant CDL endorsements: tanker, hazmat...& also doubles/triples.

Since you'd be home daily -- a pet policy should be irrelevant.
