The responsible driver in me says get it reworked. But the outlaw in me says roll with it and dodge the scales. It’s really all about your comfort level. If you don’t want to be a ball of nerves then rework it.
In Ohio, if you are more than 700lbs over on an axle you can not move the truck until it is under 700. At some point (i forget the number) you have become “legal” before you are alowed to move. I got popped at the east bound Zanesville scale back in like 05-06 and just had to get it under 700lbs over. Lucky for me, because after i slide as much as i could i was still 650lbs over on the tandems. I forget now what my weights were, but i do remember i was close to the bigger fine & not moving until it was 100% legit. They also held my license until i finished up and paid the fine in full. No ticket & ride there. They want their money on the spot!
I'm going to make a comment here and challenge everybody that is interested to go check it out. Ask the next weigh master or DOT officer this question. Try to do it in a low key way not involving you being cited for overweight. Ask them how accurate are their scales and how much leeway do they give? You might be shocked at the answers you get. I have! 1800 pounds in a huge cross section of America's Scales will get you green lighted and passed on by. Please don't take my word for it. ASK!
I have never asked but i believe that. I have always had trouble keeping my drives legal in 1 truck. No matter how far forward I pushed the 5th wheel my steers would stay at 10500 drives at 35000 or a tad more. If i moved the thousand to the rear hopper then my tandams were over. I sit a long time waiting on the green sometimes. The new to me truck doesnt have that issue
No not really. The place had closed for the day and we were far away by the time we got to a scale. We were headed home and I wanted to know what my other options were other than missing my reservation for the next day. They were already getting us home late.
Oh my goodness. Lol. I reworked it and got home on time. We didn’t have the option to wait till the next day.
