My company fires you for overweight tickets. So much easier to go scale it out at a truckstop than guess and be overweight or overaxle going thru scale house.
We get paid back for all scale tickets and so much easier on the mind going thru the coop. I have had many BOL'S with incorrect weights on them. Picked up a dropped
trailer couple weeks back, bol said 28,000 and truck/trailer/freight was 80780.........UGH

Some years ago, I picked up a load of rolled steel product (dry box). Bills said something like 35k. Rolling through the hills of western NC, I sensed something was wrong. I KNEW it when the brakes started smokin'.

Finally scaled it. I was over 79k. Seems the driver who had picked up the load (I was a repower) had forgotten to give me the second page of the bill.

Happened again to me in January of 2011, only this time, it was Linenkugel Beer. They forgot the second page. So, instead of 42k, I had almost 46k. I was under gross, but the load was going to California. So, I had to call my DM, fess up that I was a veteran driver that made a rookie mistake, and we had it reloaded by a third party down the road a bit (after the 160 miles of 'down the road' I had already gone). But I had pulled it over 160 miles across secondary roads before I ever saw a CAT scale.

I was lucky. Company never charged me back a dime. But I was sure luckier than smart.

Do you ever have issues with being too heavy on the steers? I remember about a decade ago that seemed to be an issue with the bigger Volvos....

Yes, it is heavy a lot of the time on the steers. Have to play w/5th wheel slide a lot; run with half tank of fuel; and I also have an APU in the truck which adds 500 more pounds.

I did'nt know trucking companies will pay the overweight ticket unless they wanted you to go with it.Did your dispatcher tell you to drive as is and Werner will pay the overweight ticket?I remember one time with Werner I was overweight and I did'nt think to weigh it like an idiot. My ticket was $500.00 and had to go back the next morning to have the shp rework the load. That's how I know to call the police station and ask for an extention. They granted my request.
