Anything over the back of the trailer is required to have a flag. Not necessarily a permit, but a flag.

called utah today. and apparently the front overhang can only be 3 ft. wonder if it got changed or becuase it's a 53 foot trailer. cuz it was 4 feet on a 48 flat.

6 feet before permits are needed.

Some 53s add 6-10 inches in the front, 4 in the back. At least that's what i was told... maybe that's why?

You mean you're allowed 6' of rear overhang on a 53 in UT without a permit?

Refused load of 3 pickup trucks front and rear overhang. Each truck was 19 feet, that makes 57 feet plus little space between them. Broker and customer were looking at me as I was insane. Another driver came and took the load, while I took load of two pickups. I have 53' step. Also been wondering about 53' vans with all those wind breaking tales. They are at least 3-4 feet. I did not see any flags on them

I've done several loads with quite a bit of overhang on a 53ft trailer.

I dont know how legal it is,.. but I have found that if you flag and the load is 'safe' and secure,.. no one has stopped or questioned me about it.

The 2 pics enclosed are good examples or over hang loads I did and passed through several inspection stations and the vans went through Utah POE in Evanston.

Legal? I wont comment,.. Was I hassled,... ? No.

Nice pics, you are using all of your trailer. It seems that the top deck doesn't get used much on a step. What percentage of time is your upper deck empty would you say? Thanks
