I've seen Super 8's as cheap as $35-40 a night in Indiana. There are typically no frills but they're clean and quiet

It was before my time on the job, but I've heard of the time when some truck stops had bunk rooms. Occasionally I drive by the shells of such places where the signs are still readable.

Only thing that will attract is suspicious activity

Way back when Union 76 was the leader in truckstops the upstairs rooms were "roomettes". They had a single bed, a chair and wake-up alarm on the wall. Most are still there in the older T/A's but not used. Secondi's and The Mayflower T/S in Conn. used to have bunkrooms upstairs. The idea just won't fly today with most drivers having sleepers and cooking options in their cabs. Also like it was said you couldn't afford the upkeep and keep the cost low enough.Studebaker Hawk Thanks this.

Yea, short time rental rooms is where you take the love of the moment too and do your thing. Thailand has many. It's funny as from what I have seen they have big curtains to close behind your parking spot so people can't see your car or motorbike parked there and imform the other half you are out playing. Lol
You pull in. Close the curtain and go in room. Leave room money there. Call front desk and tell them 1 hour or 2
Then they clean the room after you leave. Lol -
I don't think today's drivers are interested. If I have a decent sized fridge with a freezer and microwave and a bed in my truck and I have an apu so I can run heating and cooling for 12 hours I don't think so. Not to mention I have satellite T.V. in my truck so why would peope

Where have you and your devils advocate been lol

I like your thoughts on a 10 hr. motel. Not only would it give a guy a break from the truck, having a shower with it would be a plus. I would hope that could apply to retired truckers also. I'm a retired trucker, 78 yrs old & would love to take 1 last road trip to some of my favorite stops; just can't afford motel prices now & I'm sure they're others.

Motel rooms for $50 is a thing of the past. I can still remember when you could get a room in Tucumcari for $20.Last edited: Apr 29, 2023

There's a lotta drivers that don't have a set-up like that; they have trucks that just have the basics - that can get boring.
