I would not use comdata there exspensive. I use highway permits and there about $18 a permit cheaper than comdata. Unless landstar pays you back then it does not matter.

grizzly is dead on, nm will require 6 flags, 2 on the front and one on EACH CORNER of the load.
and you can read the books all one wants but you better check it against whats on the permit.
i do have a question, at landstar i take it you have to order your own permits??
are the permits part of your cut of the load or is it seperate?
just curious, as at mercer all we do is call in with our route we would prefer and they are ordered by our permit person assigned to us. ( at mercer you always have the same settlement person, log person, permit person etc. assigned to you) they take care of paying etc and our settlement doesnt reflect anything about the permits. if we encounter tolls we send in receipts and are then reimbursed for tolls incurred because of route.
i used to run 8 trucks with oversize every day, ordered my permits direct from the states except for tn but thats another thread , lol.
but again , read the permit requirements when ya have permits in hand to verify all infogrizzly Thanks this. -
This load was booked at a set rate PLUS permits, so the permit costs are being covered by the shipper, not out of my pocket. I will not haul any OS load that is ALL INCLUSIVE.....
I use comdata because LS has a Comdata dept of their own on site in Rockford. i call them directly and get my permits right away, no problems. -

but you order your own permits though?
also when ya remeasure keep a copy in ya permit book. you never know when ya need that . and ya sure ya dont have a 10 2 spread?
and i always had good service out of comdata for temp irp, and oversize etc.
at mercer when ya lease on all those measurements, deck height of trl and on and on are taken and put on a form, when ya need permits they have all that on file and we only give a route we prefer. we also have our trucks weighed empty and that is part of your preferences, as is whether you tarp or have 4 6 or 8 foot tarps etc etc. that way you want get called to be offered loads not meeting your criteria.
but any of that can be changed, daily if you like. -
SHC Thanks this.

You will run into problems with Comdata on some states, they will not use W VA self issue website to get your permit instantly, they refuse to pay the service that runs it for W VA, so you wait a day or 2, they send all their OK permits thru the Dallas office so you wait and wait.
You can make money on all inclusive loads if you know what you are doing, I just did one and was able to gain $1900 more than the estimated line-haul. You have to know your cost and be very careful when weight is involved.
LS lets you order your own permits from whatever service you perfer, you also hire and fire your own escorts. Some loads are plus P&E and some are inclusive, keep what you don't use. -
So what outside services would you reccommend??? Can you pay for the permits with comchecks?
