Eeeek..
Really. I thought fuel stops were normal. Most places generally look like they are setup for truck traffic when about 1/4 mile off the highway getting fuel or shutting down for the night..
Well... Now don't that beat all..
Anymore truck traps besides Ohio??
Actually, when I use to haul Serious Nasty Hazmat, Ohio was on my list of make sure you truck is up to snuff before going into the state. Make sure you leave your feeling as at home and make sure you window and your underware are clean......
Lol...

Actually, I didn't really have any problems with Ohio, The weighmasters were all descent people. I've seen drives shoot their mouths off and get themselves into a pickle.
Must be nice when pulled in. Nice in, Nice out.
I find if we as drivers are trying to do our jobs, they are pretty good. If we are actiing like a bunch of chipmunks during mating season, well..... We get what we get... -
I have annuals for WI. SD. IA. IL. OH. With them I can run any approved route. When you get a single trip in Ohio, if you plan to exit the Interstate (fuel, eat or potty break) make sure it is on your permit. They will give you a ticket if its not on your permit. You may enter the rest areas without them on your permit.
macmanboomer and 281ric Thank this. -
Driver,
I think you are on the right path, asking questions before they arise. Keep it up and you will be where you want to be one day. Just be patient. -
Thanks.
I see why many drivers give up with running loads that require more work. I also see how many people run only certain products. Money is easy and doesn't cost too much of a headache.
I would like to run with the big boys some day. Moving really heavy equipment/materials is something that looks challenging. At the same time, I don't want to have to pay some unnecessary prices that could get me fired or get someone hurt.
I would like to take a high paying load to Alaska or to Newfoundland. -
OH,PA, and NC require fuel stops on permit, In IL do not cross a bridge if overweight to get in TS.
Nostalgic and macmanboomer Thank this. -

We get routinely routed over load restricted bridges. I used to call about each and every one if through the week and had somewhere to park safely. Got told the same thing every time..."if it's on your permit, it's fine, go"
I kinda gave up after that!
If it isn't on your permit though, beware!
Martinmacmanboomer and 281ric Thank this. -
PA will cut your ***off and fine you big time for 1 block off route. PA dot told me if you take a exit to stop on ramp that when you cross the hwy at the bottom to get back on you are off route. I know some oilfield haulers that had $25,000 fines.
I know one of our O/O's got tapped $35,000 in IL for crossing the bridge on I-39 to get into the Petro at Rochell. (140,000 lbs)281ric Thanks this. -
I was doing a rte. survey years back in Tx.. I called them about those 58k roads. Seems some of them have had the restrictions taken off, but they leave them posted to keep trks. off the roads. Reason is alot of oil field trks. are taking them and the roads were not built for all that much traffic and weight.
Go figure.
Yea Il. can be real touchy about crossing none rted. bridges
