In Ohio you can, 53' load or trailer. The big construction company I worked for used to cut the scrap steel beams from bridges to 53' and we hauled them on 48' flats all over the state. What gets a lot of guys is they think front overhang doesn't matter, if you're pulling a 48 with 5' of rear overhang you better not have any over the front. If you're over 4' of rear overhang you are required to flag it and if it's over 2' wide they want 2 flags marking the widest part of the overhang.
