Good deal, glad to hear it. Use this to springboard you to your next one, I have no doubt in no time you will be hauling the stuff I do. I know it seems so far away, but trust me when I say it will happen when it's supposed to.
Ethan, you have the right attitude to succeed. I wouldn't hesitate to assist you. If you buy a truck & want to do heavy haul, PM me.

Yeah I'm pretty happy about it. I'll be saving my permits to use as proof I've hauled an OD load incase I go to another company.
Thanks a lot Demo, I appreciate it. We don't do a whole lot of oversize but I'm going to bug my FM to get me under another one. I definitely want to buy my own truck one day. I understand good things come in time, I just have to be patient and keep my record clean.
Thanks, I try to have an outgoing and motivated attitude because without it I wouldn't be where I am today. Id be stuck at Sonny's cooking BBQ still haha

Nothin' wrong with some good ol BBQ, glad to hear everything went smooth.
DrtyDiesel Thanks this. -

If you're going to pull oversized, you might want to invest in a truckstop directory. See, the bigger the load, the more important your stopping place is going to be. Loves, Pilots and Js are usually tight. And the days are getting shorter. And winter is coming. That means Oversized is going to spend more time in the truckstop.
In the truckstop directory, it will tell you how big the parkinglot is. Yes, a Loves and a Pilot might be listed as having a big lot, but those are doorslammer havens. What you are looking for is not only the big lot but the fork and knife emblems. After all, if you are stuck under an oversize because of a snowstorm, or wintertime has you parked for 14 hours a day, wouldnt you want to eat with a fork instead of Subway and Arby's?
The best thing about these truckstops is there is where you will find all the other oversized drivers. You will meet some pretty cool hands. And because of the nature of the business, you will see them again and again.
One more thing...if you want to get more into specialized or heavyhaul, you may as well go ahead and jump ship to a specialized or heavyhaul company. Its like playing football in gym class compared to being on the football team. Sure, you can play football, but the team has the coaches, the players, the equipment, and the training. They dont play soccer and badmitten. Just a suggestion if thats what you really want to do.DrtyDiesel and cpape Thank this. -
Thanks for the advice. I've been going back and forth. I like roehl and the way I'm treated here but I really do want to get out and into more specialized freight. We just don't haul enough.
As far as the truck atop guide, I do have one and I also use an app on my phone called truck and travel. It basically shows Google maps with little dots where truck stops are. Tell you exactly how many spots there are and what other things they offer. I'll post some pics.
Also, I like it because it shows where Lowes, home depot, and walmarts are. Gives you the phone number to call and ask about parking and everything. Plus I use satellite view to see how big the places are and how their parking lots are setup.

Here's some pics of the app.
This one shows what I see. Its saint cloud, MN and shows where mom and pop truck stops are, and as you can see a pilot and Walmart pin
This one is the pilot, shows its a small parking lot
Then the petro, also gives easy access to phone number, directions, and the website on some.
This app also shows rest areas and a bunch of other things, it does cost money though. I have to say its money well spent.
I keep a truck stop guide though incase I don't have enough service on my phone to load the app.

I had to jump ship because I was pulling oversized and the company that I was driving for didnt do alot of them.I had questions on the weekend, there was absolutely noone that could help me. None of the drivers I knew, no office personel, noone. I loaded up in Ottumwa and went to the Iowa 80 and got help from an ATS driver.
I will say this about ATS. For entry level flatbedding, you can go to better places...like Maverick or Swift to learn the basics, as they really dont teach the basics. But if you want to go specialized, its either a company like them or Keen or JK Hackl or Lonestar for company drivers or Landstar, Sammons, AdmiralMerchants, Buchanan, Daily, GreatWide, or BennettDrtyDiesel Thanks this.
