Oversized load on flatbed hits overpass in Houston

    I'm a newbie when it comes to oversize. I hauled a "baby" over width last week, a cooler that was 8'11" (embarrassed to fly the banners and flags. There were four extra pallets of "fall off" (parts taken off to reduce overall dimensions). It was legal. I'm learning.

    All states issue permits with the same or similar caveat, in technical legal jargon that basically says, "If #### goes wrong, it's not our fault".

    Anyone remember that permitted over height load that struck the girders on the I-5 bridge southbound over the Skagit River in Washington a few years ago? He was permitted on the route. The front pilot car with the pole was asleep at the switch when his pole started clanking on the girders. Collapsed the entire southbound bridge. IIRC the driver, his company, and the pilot car company had to cough up quite a sum to build a new bridge
