If you take the time to actually READ the speed limit sign, there is a maximum AND a minimum speed set. Depending on the State, it can be 40 mph to 55 mph. Prime has every right to be on that interstate no matter what the max speed is. Think about it, the only reason the states are raising their speed limits has nothing to do with safety, it's money. The faster you run, the more fuel you burn, the more fuel tax they collect. Period!! You are actually safer running slower because you have more time to react to a situation ahead of you. All that stuff about you being safer running with the flow of traffic even if the flow is doing 10-15 mph over the limit is just BS. I am an IC, My truck is not governed and I run 58-62 mph unless the limit is less, then I run that lower limit. Granted, I don't worry about miles as I run percentage. As far as worrying about someone running into the back of me, it's their problem. I will win in court every time and retire early. Has anyone ever seen what happens when you blow out a steer tire at 65 mph?? It's not pretty. Now, the next time you're running that 70-80 mph or 85 in some parts of Texas, just remember that truck tires are only speed rated for 75 max. And again the faster you go the less time you have to react to that blowout and it will be one heck of a ride if you survive it.

I get 3000 miles aweek or more. I can do 650 miles away if I want. When I decided to come to a mega carrier my fear was slow trucks and eobr. Guess what love both no hassle at dot traffic stays away from me keep a nice cushion around me. If a driver rear ends me for being to slow he should have been paying attention not Waiting till last min and then Sling shot around. I'm seeing more OO slowing down.

That's it megacarriers, encourage your drivers to use cruise control so they'll fall asleep at 3AM.

I've run both ways, last company i ran for we run 80 every where it seemed. I was constantly tired, stressed and worried. I'd rather run at a speed that's less stressful and not constantly wondering what's around next corner.

I need to jump in this before somebody dies behind false logic! The truth is that their needs to be a balance between speed for saving fuel and safety as well as the need to keep a driver awake and aware keeping in mind that keeping the driver awake and aware of his environment is one that is rooted in psychology.
I am no psychologist just a student of philosophy with a street degree in common sense!
I personally drove a truck set at 62 mph while working for Dart (which by the way has an owner lobbying to get all trucks set at 62 nationwide) and I can tell you on at least 3 different occasions I almost fell asleep while driving for that company with its dangerous policy.
To keep a person rolling safely the speeds on trucks needs to keep all that I mentioned above in mind, you are probably asking yourself well what is then?
The answer is one of fact, each drivers tolerance is different if scraping the bottom of the bottom line is the goal. Some people can be as happy as a bug in a rug at 57 some cannot, some can live with 65 some get absolutely board and take more breaks to compensate for boredom.
I personally can only drive at a speed no less than 70 or aggravation sets in.
Some people just can barley handle a truck at 60 let alone 70 but the bottom line is that each person is different in many ways physically, psychologically when it comes to driving a truck. One things for sure one size does not fit all and the real pros know this and continue to shop around for a company that will accommodate their needs and that's the way it should be in the good ol USA but many drivers have had smoke blown up their rectum for so long they either forgot or just don't care and so they continue to spread these lies that one size fits for him and it should fit for you is just insane to say the least.
Any of you drivers reading this, if your have been on the road for any real length of time more than one to two years you know what you can handle and what you cannot because many of you of not all of you have gone down many a hill and let her rip and many of you have been cut off in the process and learned what your limits are and of you haven't learned at the most at 3 years just go hang up your keys.
As long as you are in that seat mentally and physically meaning no texting no playing video games like I saw a CRST Driver do with a black and white TV set propped up on the dash or driving with your feet upon the door sill or the dash you should be fine.
We can steer this industry in the way WE want it to go if we just use common sense and open our eyes to companies that abuse our time minds souls and bodies.
A company even in this environment of cutting throats can still make a profit at 67-70 mph with new equipment that is and if they don't runs you up to those speed limits then by all means the door is always open you came in you can leave at any time.
No company is a paradise but if you feel the heat you must be in hell.
And so man up and leave no one has a chain on you except you.
Also by the same token if you do get a chance to work for a generous company help the man as much as you can and turn the truck off, again common sense.
All I can say is that them big boys that are lobbying to get speeds maxed out at 65 are gonna be in for a lot of 3 am calls and I don't care if they have a camera in the back to focus on the hair around my pole and an elog strapped to my chest if you treat us like numbers it will eventually add up and put them in the red.
Accidents will always cost far more in fuel than what they save going up those stacks and a major shift in drivers I don't care attitudes about these mega companies will eventually change as well and guess who may end up jumping out their mansion windows if drivers woke up???
Let's put it this way, it won't be drivers maybe the owner of the mega company but surely won't be the drivers.
