At least a store shelf stocker has room to move up. Where is a trucker going? Back to the east coast? Maybe wait for a penny or to increase every year or two... If they feel like it?
IMO classic OTR company driver is the epitome of dead end careers.BostonTanker and bzinger Thank this. -
Because over the past 30 years I've seen very few drivers who have been able to retire out of trucking and don't have enough fingers to count the friends who have died at a relatively young age in this biz .

Could always become a freight broker, terminal manager, safety manager....dare i say it DISPATCHER!

Truck driver job is not a prerequisite for any of those. And to have to deal with idiot drivers who can't get out of bed, and telling you how bad it is all day on the phone? And for what? $10k more a year and 3 phone calls in the middle of every night. Hell no.bzinger Thanks this.
-

I met one at my buddy's wedding this past September. 30 years at buster brown. There's the secret to retirement.
bzinger Thanks this. -
Every job is a dead-end job, every job is an entry level job, every job is an opportunity, every job is a career.
It's what you do with the job. Not what the job does for you.
