dunno. All I can say is I keep running into “you need experience or work history” and “oh, we don’t hire in your area. Having a CDL hasn’t changed that, but I’ll figure out something, with Chinatown’s help especially!

good on you taking care of your mother. It’s a thankless job.

btw how’d you like Schneider? The owner of the school I went to said he’d have quit trucking before he took a job with them- but everyone is different!

Like any other mega-carrier, they had their good (and not-so-good) points.

Their "training engineers" were VER-RY professional--and great people, too.

For me, it was a place to start, and get some badly needed "seat time".

    Just what you need, too.

Because of their size and incredibly immense freight volumes, they would likely give you a chance (like they did for me), when others simply won't.

For the same basic reasons, they will very likely keep you running, even if a serious recession develops.

So many of their clientele are household names: Walmart, Target, Lowe's, Home Depot, General Mills, Procter & Gamble, etc.

These are companies that generally do well, even when the economy slows down.

I saw this with Schneider, when the economy stalled because of covid.

Once you get inside the company, you will see many different opportunities, & lots of dedicated accounts.

Also: after spending 6 months in one division--you can move on to another.

This feature essentially lets you change jobs--without changing employers. A very neat perk.

I went from OTR, to their intermodal group.

Intermodal is extremely good experience, too.

If you were to bone up on those endorsements (especially hazmat, & tanker), as has been suggested earlier, some of these carriers that are either playing wishy washy, or on the fence about you....might just change their minds.

The endorsements are not really hard to get, & valuable to have.

    Trust me--they are door openers.

Guess Artur changed their hiring criteria. Plenty more for you to choose from though.

Put the apps in before calling.. It's easy for someone on the phone to say 'no' we can't hire you.
If a website doesn't have an app, then copy and app and email or fax to the company. There's a fax & email address on most every website.
The reason I mentioned Artur is because they had an ad in Missouri, something like, "New driver, new cdl grad, we can help."

Schneider is getting quit good at "stretching" the truth. From what i'm hearing, for a while now all new graduates, refresher drivers, etc. have a 4 - 6 week wait on getting a truck because of shortness on road ready tractors. Too many maintenance issues, repairs, etc. Might send you across country to retrieve one and if it's not road ready...more waiting.

And, during your wait time you are earning 0. On top of the already low pay...not too good!
