Overtime pay ! Make it happen .

Every NBA basketball player should have his own shoe deal with Nike. And they should all be MVP. The goobermint should step in and make the league and sponsors get the benchwarmers t he same treatment as the starters.

 

I broke my back for 15 years driving a moving truck. One day I decided I wasn't doing it anymore. I made good money but at age 36 my body was braking down. I had a clean record and all my endorsements. So I got on the Internet machine and started doing my research. Sure enough I found what I was looking for. A nationwide company with a local branch and that hauls their own product. Pay by the hour, overtime and Mon-Fri. I haven't been happier in my life to take the time to look around and change my situation. If you're a professional and do things the right way, the ball is almost always in your court

 

Trucking co's operating in the state of Washington are required to pay OT after 40 to all hour rate employees.

Dirty little secret of the trucking industry is that it's workers are not covered under the FLSA at the federal level like most other hourly paid occupations, which is completely wrong and unfair. Some states have closed that loophole though with stricter labor laws.

 

So, what is it that you guys want?

1) Hourly pay for both lines 3&4
2) Your mileage pay PLUS hourly compensation for line 4 only?

Option 1 you would get OT after 40, With option 2 you probably wont get OT. Now, keep in mind that companies are probably going to readjust their extra pay such as fuel bonus, mileage bonus, stop pay, tarping pay to keep their costs and payroll duties at a minimum.

Now, the next order of business. If a company is going to pay you for being on duty they are going to require you to "Be on Duty". As you are being loaded or unloaded no more logging it as "sleeper" to conserve your hours. I bet that safeguards would be put in place to keep drivers from logging an hour every time they stop for fuel.

 

It's a job with a huge amount of responsibility. Trucking is ranked as the ninth most dangerous job in America.

Regarding the government, they already tell us when we can fart and how loud. So them stepping in and actually doing something positive for us can only be a good thing.

I'm not expecting to be paid my weight in solid gold every week but 60 cpm, $40 per extra stop, and $15 an hour detention after two hours with full benefits. And hub miles none of that household movers or zip to zip BS.

 

You can tell the drivers who have never been paid by the hour. They act like OT is this mystical thing that they would never see. Yeah because we live in a perfect world and carriers can predict every little hiccup in it. Lol

 

Top UPS feeder drivers in my area make $130k, top LTL guys over $100k, top grocery guys at my facility make $100k, all of these jobs offer generous retirement and benefit packages. I'm bewildered as to why OTR wages generally don't come close to these salaries, particularly given the sacrifices that the drivers make by living in a truck (I know, I know...some folks like staying out for months and months). The race to the bottom for cheap freight comes at the expense of the drivers.

Honestly, the only thing that the goobers in the goobermint really have to do to make things worlds better for drivers is limit the amount of money that brokers can skim off a single load to 10%. Problem solved.

 

The home every night local job I am looking at $25 and keeps bumping up. Full benefits etc.
