Overweight and OOS

I was just thinking the OOS even though it was for overweight was the worst of the two and had wors consequences.

 

Points mandated by the new CSA requirements of the FMCSA and codified in the FMCSA CSA rules are awarded based on the criteria set forth by the FMCSA. However I agree with you that drivers don't have CSA scores per say.

 

Did you receive an inspection report along with the ticket? The officer would have advised you to send this to the authority holder of the truck you were driving!

 

There are two types of 53ft open deck trailers. One type has a 10ft tailswing behind the spread. This one usually doesn't have the sliding axle as it is legal in California, Florida and Connecticut. Swift and Hunt uses these. However these trailers are extremely difficult to load long loads that are heavy because the front trailer axle is almost in the center of the trailer (think about it...10ft tailswing and a 10'2 spread to the front axle).
Owner ops and specialized fleets use the other type, with tthe spread to the rear. Of course, its not legal on cali and Florida because of the bridge law. To get legal, you slide the rear axle forward. This shifts 2500lb more to the trailer tandems (34000 in cali, 44000 limit in Florida).

 

Then there is a CSA record of the OOS. However just because there is a record does not mean you are in "trouble". Just be careful in the future, especially in places like California that are famous for giving truckers as much Hell as they can.

 

California is just a useless state all around!
