On a car carrier it's the weak link in your steer that is the limit. Like my particular truck I can run up to 14500. Not sure of the law on a regular tractor but I'm pretty sure it's the same until you enter the communist state on the left coast. Then I got no idea!

Yeah, 32K on the drives and 13K on the steer ? Don't sound right ? If the steer is that heavy, drives should be heavy too.

The generator is a built on so it can't be rework. The driver moved thefifth wheel and it became 13280, and before he did that, it was 14500. He also burn the diesel to make it lighter. We had to move so that I called the permit company, and they said we shouldn't be need the permit to move since the steer axle is single axle and states that we pass except CA has limit of 20000lbs for single axle when gross weight, drive axle, trailer axle is legal. We have to buy a permit for CA. Now he's driving and we wish nothing happens on the way.

States allow 20 but axle has to be built for the weight. Cali allows 20. Think 10 foot spread axles on trailers. Good for 40 on the back.

I've rolled through truckee with 39 on trailer. 12.8 on steers.

Oregon would be the stickler. I was told when I got my ticket. 12.3 on steers. Car haulers being the exemption as they usually have wider tires. It was a few years back so don't remember the exact conversation.

California allows for up to 20. But if you have a 14k steers rating then that’s what you can have on them.

If the axle and tires are rated for that weight, no problem ...just go!

Actually, strangely, the Steer to drive weight ratio on my 2016 Volvo 780 isn't linear .... With full fuel bobtail my steers are 13,000-13,100 and slowly lose weight with loading the drives.... Once you cross 32,000 on the drives the weight starts coming off the front end quicker. Very strange how it acts.

BTW the dumb factory built the truck with a 12.5K steer that is overweight right out of the gate. IMO Volvo should have a recall on all 780s and put 13.2K steers in them!!
