I drive an 8 axle truck dedicated route 110000 pounds gross. My permit says i cannot exceed 55mph so thats what ive been doing but god #### i hate going that slow I fesl like im a hazard on the road.
Cars and trucks passing me at 70+ and i cant even let the downhills speed me up over 55. I start at west virgina and have to go through all of ohio to michigan where the permit ends.
Im just wondering if anyone knows if there is any wiggle room with that speed restriction? Would the cops care if i do 62 for example?
Overweight permit in ohio 55mph?

Michigan axle limits are strict. I have an adjustable pressure guage under the trailer to change the distribution of the weights to be legal in michigan
Canadianhauler21 and Lepton1 Thank this. -

They don’t know what your permit reads, until they pull you over

Is this true?
So if i just follow the posted limit and not do anything stupid to avoid getting pulled over, i can exceed 55 without any trouble?
I've passed by a lot of pulled over trucks in ohio (mostly fedex lol) im assuming they were just speeding or something? Or do the cops sometimes pull you over just to check if your legal?

More than likely the 55 is normal for permitted loads. The fact you have 8 axles they likely know you either have a permit or running overweight.
Don't give them an excuse to pull you over to see which ticket they will give you.
Is the permit state wide, or a specific route? If it's state wide, might want to try a few US routes and stay off the Interstate.Tb0n3, Lepton1 and Highway Sailor Thank this. -
Oh well. Thanks for all the answers everyone.Lepton1 Thanks this.
