put the load towards the rear.
They are loading it nose heavy..
If on pallets try loading it single double single and then double the rest of the way back.
To the poster who stated they used a cheap carrier. How does that factor in when the drivers are not there to tell them how to load the load???
Even 20$$ a mile carrier can have the same problem..
They did not load the load from what I read in the post.
they were pre loaded..
Overweight??

A fifth wheel position will not transfer 2000 pounds in any direction...response to the poster who said it will move a ton!
Containers have connection pin locks at each corner, and can be turned 180 degrees if the weight is not legal on the nose...however getting the rail yard to do this would be a good trick...from my experience.
The poster who gave the axle "averages" at 12,000/34,000/34,000 is correct with the total not exceeding 80k...however the steer axle can go to 12,500 reducing the drives and tandems to not exceed 80k. Just be sure the tire rating is correct for the weight.
Freight should be loaded heaviest in the middle lighter on the nose than on the tail. the poster that gave the pallet pattern of single/double/single /double back is correct, and the second single isn't necessarily necessary it depends on the pallet structure and weight of the pallet groups. -
Well otherhalf, it has been a long long time since I've lded. a van or reefer trl.
I know they stated they were containers.
Just trying to throw out some help there to them.. hahaotherhalftw Thanks this. -
Chainbreaker was dead on. With a little practice, you can move the trailer axles to have a balanced load before getting to the scale. Look at the container, in relation to the drives and tandems. You want the container to be about 1' to 2' to the rear of center. This will compensate for the heavier drive axle, versus the tandems. In other words, if the front of the container is directly above the center of your drives and the back of the container is directly above the center of your tandems, you'll need to slide the tandems forward a foot or two.

The poster didn't claim that a single 5th wheel position transfers a ton, they claimed (correctly) that you can transfer a ton by moving the 5th wheel. The reason this is true is because each 5th wheel position transfers about 200 pounds (when the drives scale near 34K), and most sliding 5th wheels have at least ten positions.
Sliding 5th wheels are great when they're in good working order. All you need to do is crank the trailer dollies down, flip the tractor air bag switch, release the 5th wheel slider, release the tractor brakes, then drive forward or backward. Mine works like a charm. Gives you an extra level of flexibility when it comes to avoiding reloads.
