    Totally agree.

But from the employers perspective...if a good company has unlimited applicants who want to work there, they weed people out somehow to get to the short list. If a company can only hire fit males who are between 30-50, well that is attractive to them.

young guys, old guys, chubby guys, women, tatoos etc All of these groups can be capable of doing the work, but each has a possible drawback from the employer perspective. So why bother interviewing or hiring if there are hundreds of fit males in their 30's or 40's who also want the job?

To be very clear - - I don't agree with any of this, but employers generalize in order to hit their hiring sweet spot.

That is a great reason you posted. But the reality is, who has more perfect applicants than they have job openings? And if they were in such great shape, they would not be looking for a job that sits them in a truck for 2 weeks at a time.

I'm 6'5" and a duck walk under much of ANYTHING would be pretty hard for this bud.
There are a few companies out there that I've seen doing an agility test. But what does that prove?

That would be discrimination and should be able to be argued in Human Rights Court... Now trying to prove that a company has hire based on weight/height/health would be hard because they can make up excuses.. But people shouldn't be discouraged from taking stuff like this too human rights court if you really want the job.. Then again why would you want to work for a company that has discriminated you and hired you because you won a court case... I'd just want to win a case to prove a point..

I don't know that the medicals in Canada are as tough as those in the U.S... Maybe because I am not looking around at other Canadian companies, but still the psychical still isn't that bad... I am 5'10 and my weight has gone to 250... I used to be 180 and then 225.. I am still active and can do a bunch of things you might not think a over weight person could...

I don't think your weight or height have anything to do with how you perform.. I have seen average weight & height people being out done by overweight people.. Just cause you might be "fat" doesn't mean your lazy and not capable of doing a job... If your morbidity overweight then I could see it being a problem because this is a disease, but just being generally over weight I can't see why it should be an issue.. Not everyone can be lean and tall...

I used to have a buddy who was overweight throughout elementary school and high school... He was active in hockey, a good runner and ice skater... Probably in better condition then a lot of skinny people... I am sure there are tons of examples where weight isn't an issue...

I can see things like heart attacks, diabetics, seizures, strokes etc.. can be an issue.. If these conditions are under control and have been for a few years I don't see why it should be a problem if it has been proven to be under control.. Same with age just because your a old person doesn't make you a bad driver.. Again if you prove yourself why should you be disqualified...

They do measure your neck and if its over 20.5 inches you've got to get tested for sleep apnea.

The BMI scale is extremely flawed. According to the scale, most NFL athletes are obese. Those guys are healthier then I will ever be. Right now I am overweight, I'm 6'2"' and 360 pounds. For me to get to a BMI number of 35 I'd have to drop down to 265, to get to 30 I'd have to drop down to 230. I am a large framed guy and if I weighed 230 I wouldn't get hired because I'd look like some crackhead or like I had some horrible disease.

BMI is a guide that works fairly well for most of the population, for the average person. NFL players are not average people... If you were 6'2 360 @ 12% bodyfat, the only problem you might have is finding a gym and a source for steroids/HGH on the road.

BMI is ridiculous! I'm 6'5" and if I were 215 pounds, according to THIS index, I would be overweight; BMI would be 25.5 and that's overweight.
    http://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/guidelines/obesity/BMI/bmicalc.htm

That's stupid! If I were 220 pounds, I'd be a lean, mean driving machine and I would look absolutely phenomenal. Granted I have a big belly right now and I know it needs to be gone; I'm taking steps that direction.

But if their idea if for me to look like skin and bones and think that's healthy, they can take a flying leap...

YUP, he's defiantly from Jackson, AL!

Some companies might want you to take a sleep test to check for sleep apnea, but I don't know what your exact BMI is; the basis of your BMI is when some companies will test you for this disorder due to their insurance regulations.
    Prime is an example.

Outside of that, if you're going to be hand unloading freight you'll need to take a stress test with some companies. It's short and simple- when you're taking the company physical they pull you in a room, check your resting heart rate, make you do jumping jacks or stack boxes quickly for a few minuets then they check how long it takes for your heart to return to it's resting pace.

    Pretty simple, fairly harmless.
