I did the Atkins diet, but didn't get much weight reduction benefit. Not until I greatly reduced meat intake and stop cooking most of my vegetables did I get any real traction. 24 lbs lighter now and back to college weight.
One thing about carbs is that they are a great source of energy, especially complex carbs like whole grains. However, for a truck driver we don't need that much energy. My weight gain was the result of not adjusting my diet from the days when I was younger and working out a lot, as I got older and my physical regimen was reduced I kept eating carbs and saw my weight increase.
