Easy, when I park during the day. I have a notebook i record mileage and route. Not much to remember.
    Routes are required for ifta.
Beginning address, route and ending address. Using odometer.

    HopeOverMope Thanks this.

i am pretty sure you don't need a begging and ending adress for ifta. i never write that on my ifta, hell the trip sheets produced by the state don't have a place to write adresses, i just put city/state, and for the state or border crossings ill write say sd line or name of port of entry if im in crossing the canadian border. so i might have roccanville sk - westhope poe, westhope poe - bismarck, nd , bismarck nd - xxxxxxx

I keep a trip sheet for each load. Dates, last empty place, origin, destination, miles, fuel and routes.

your ifta is filed with the state your registered in.

like for me registered in ND its on the nddot.gov website under motor carrier services. then there is a place to click to go into your ifta and you have to log in.

normally first time setup has to be done in person.

So, during an audit, have any of you one truck, owner is the driver operations get asked “Does the carrier comply with the road test provisions is section 391.31”?

Like how do I give myself a road test? Am I suppose to answer that with, “yes all future drivers will be road tested per the provisions of 391.31. Currently XYZ trucking only has one driver, John Doe, the owner/manger , so a self test was done according to 391.31”??

In my driver file, I am the only driver. I keep my own job application and there is a note that I did perform a road test on myself - with date and time...I did pass excellent too, signed it by myself. I also called/emailed my previous employer to verify my employment there and had them email that back to me in writing. I also did a pre-employment drug test on myself despite knowing that I don't use. The auditor did go through the file. The purpose of it is that you have a proper procedure of hiring process.

I may get flamed for this, but so be it. IF you don’t want to do it the way that has been stated, most ELD companies can track it and report it for you. Yes, it costs, however, I feel like someone new that has never done it the way stated this may be easier.
