Well wtm I would always opt for new engine but if they can guarentee a rebuilt then that would be ok too. I think it should be up to the person getting it. The difference in price and how long they warranty it would be my biggest thing. which leads me to this point we are wanting to just use people that will stand behind their work and if by chance say you blew an engine and 3 months later it messed up we want to get you back to them or to the same kind of dealer as in freightliner peterbuilt cat or detroit whoever and we would pay for it up front no cost to you and then we would take the steps to get our money back from them. really this program is going to be designed by o/ops and l/p drivers to best suit their needs I am not trying to get rich off this I just want to take care of my fellow operators. I think it is a good plan I am taking in all the feed back I can so I make sure I get it right. I obviously have to make sure we will stay in business . I am going to get all the feed back I can on here and go to my lawyer and draw up some different kinds of policies get out there with you guys and let you read over them to see what you think. I am just tired of the government and trucking companies trying to get rid of us o/ops. My goal is for us to be able to utilize this program to make sure repair problems can't make us fold. but you guys have to remember that the company takes most of the risk and it has to make money in order for it to work and stay running. I really think it will be a good thing. Just so you guys know I am keeping records of these posts for my lawyer so when we get into the plan we will have what you guys want on record. I would like to thank you for your input as it is VERY IMPORTANT to me.

This is a very complicated thing. Most of the trucks you will be appealing to will be the older ones becuase most of the guys running trucks 500k and under should have warrenty atleast on major components. I would think that a reasonable monthly rate/payment to insure major components would be alot easier to manage and keep up with but even at that nobody knows when ones going to let go. Most people who do what your talking about warrenty this stuff right up till it starts giving trouble and thats no coincidence. For example I could pay you say $100 a month for say three years and that still wouldnt cover a inframe much less a complete overhaul. On the otherhand if I had to say pay u $300 per month then I could nearly be making a payment on a older truck at todays prices. Its a catch22 the only way u could possibly come out is if the majority of people sold the truck before anything major went wrong and you could be sure that wouldnt happen because why would they if its under warrenty. For example lets say u insure a 800k truck that would bring what 15000 tops now he pays u 300 per month for 36 months runs 100k per year you have made 14500 over 3 years you would have to put a mileage limit on it where after that point you would not insure but he couldve bought another one just like it for what he paid you and then theres the problem of the guy a month before the warrenty is up rolling it off the hill just to make sure he gets his money worth. Im not sure theres a way for u to come out on this. If u do figure it out let me know.

You could have the truck inspected and exclude normal wear "brakes tires" out and the both parties agree on independant shops to determine if any damage is intentenal that u would not be responseible and I would also set it up where like I said before u have some type of colateral or a penilty that would hold up in court to keep somebody from just droping u in a case where u wrote the policy a month later she blows and u pay and they drop you. That might work.
