Have you tried CTI? Not sure about how much they pay, but I know they have reefer freight..

 

Dump the reefer. Jamac Logistics is looking for O/O's to pull containers regionally. Good guy owns the company and will do right by people who work hard and are professional. Reefers = Cheap Freight. Might as well run that #### thing as a dry box.

 

What's their dry van freight like; anything for teams?

 

I've been hearing this from some other brokers that I'm friends with. They tell me that Reefer doesn't pay any (that much) better than dry - between the added expense of the equipment/maintenance, fuel and higher risk of temperature controlled loads getting rejected - that it just doesn't pay to do reefer. That, and even though there are a lot of dry loads that can go in a reefer box, the reduced cubes/gross weight capacity of the reefer would exclude that type of box from a lot of dry loads.

Still in the "decision making" portion of what I'm going to "gear up" to pull. Flatbed just seems like too much REAL WORK (as in: securing/tarping and probably the highest injury rates). Reefer - too much additional capital outlay/risk.

From what I'm seeing on the load boards, for the lanes I want to run (and basically, I'm just planning on running where the freight takes me - staying out of the NE, for 3-5 weeks, then home for 7-10 days), there seems to be plenty of available freight out there.

We actually quoted a VERY LARGE company reefer rates recently and they came back to us twice and said our rates were too high. They were wanting us to contract carriers and use what few asset reefers we have to pull their freight for .70 + FSC/mile. I'm wondering how long they'll be looking for the company who will do that and how long that company will be in business.

For the money, get you a 53' flat/step get some experience and get into hauling OD. That's where you'll make your money. So long as you keep yourself in shape and don't eat big macs every day...you'll be fine.
