As with anything it is all about the market. Plenty of long $.2.25/mile runs for reefers. Just a matter of taking a step back and looking at the market.

sometimes i wish i had a 53 step instead of a 48 flat.

I'd take a step any day over this 48 flat I'm pulling now.

I too have been looking at different freight options for me, and from what I have found, flatbed rates are about the best and the # of loads dwarfs those of a stepdeck. Van freight is in great abundance but too cheap for me to pull around right now, plus my flat-top truck does not like van trailers and kills my MPG by more than 1mile per gallon. I have plenty of freight coming out of my home area, but nearly 0 going back on a flatbed. With a van there are usually several, but they are cheap. Tho sometimes when you add in the deadhead I run to go home, I would have made just as much pulling a van.
If I could just get these brokers to understand that $3.50 mile for a OD load is not that great. -

Hi. i am currently in school, and my goal is to become an o/o. My question is, can an o/o work local to be home nightly? And if so is it still profitable? i have 3 kids, and i love trucks. So i want the best of both worlds by driving trucks and being with my kids.
