My husband is about to buy a truck. He has over 10 years experience. I want to get my cdl and join him. We plan on paying for my schooling out of pocket. Does anyone know of any companies that he can sign on his truck with and then let me come in and train with him and after training go as team drivers together? Ive tried looking but cant find good information when it comes to owner operators. Ive seen info about company drivers. Wasn't sure if it's different for owner operators. Thanks!

To save you the hassle of training with a complete stranger why don't your husband get his own authority, and after you get your CDL's you can just go drive with him and get your experience. That's my 2 cents. @Chinatown may have other options.Bean Jr., Gods Daughter, alds and 1 other person Thank this.

I appreciate your concern. I used to go on the road with him all the time years ago. For us, we enjoy it.

Thank you. For now we are waiting to sign on with a company. The upfront cost is alot more.

Try USA Truck, CFI, and Schneider. I have heard in some cases they might let the truck owner train the individual.
If you do contact USA Truck find Tom McMellon. His nickname is "Carpenter Tom" and he used to be a top recruiter manager but, not sure about now. USA Truck has a decent load board that would get you started in the right direction, most loads are Drop/Hook (all considering that they would let your husband train you). They have a mileage program for O/O and they also have a load board program. The load board is much better. Just my 2 cents.Last edited: Aug 17, 2020

Best of luck. Like I say, of the, say 100 truckers I knew in my life, NONE had a successful marriage. Times have changed considerable, social media has helped, and Chinatown is good at what he does, helping people that ask, but I've seen far too many relationships go belly up, mine included, thanks mostly to the trucking lifestyle, and I WAS LOCAL!!. Remember, "going on the road with him", once in a while is one thing, but day after day, night after night, it's all about the truck, you can't get away from it. It's why I always did a local gig, it was more like a regular job, and at the end of the day, you can go home. Really, be sure this is what you want to do. Life on the road sucks, primarily food and rest room facilities, especially for women. On my move to Colorado in a U-Haul truck couple years back,, I was disgusted at the deplorable conditions of these places, if they even HAD a rest room. Terrible..Last edited: Aug 17, 2020
