Too far from me to be convenient and, well, Crime Hills (Taft is a little better). I used to work on Mercy and Colonial before trucking. That's where I became attached to my screen name. Thanks though!

I feel you. I grew up on Mercy and moved to the burbs at 13. I remember it used to be a roadway right there on mercy and old winter garden which is basically across from the shop I go to. And yea you gotta keep heat over there although I don't have a issue.

When my old man was trucking, he did everything short of inframes, diffs, clutches and A/C (and obviously anything requiring a computer as well). When I turned 16 or 17 he paid me $10 an hour to do it for him while he enjoyed his weekends. Great money considering I'd get 6 to 8 hours on the average weekend when you included 3-5 hours of steam cleaning.

Ya I don't do any of the wrenching. I also have a good relationship with my shop. I baby sit the tech while the truck is in there.

P.S. I'm sure they charge exta for that.......,

I do everything except diff and trans rebuilds. Engine rebuild, electrics, you name it. Brakes and wheel bearings is the easy stuff. But I've got a nice workshop big enough for truck and trailer, that is important imo. If I need a special tool for something I'll buy it because it's still better than paying a mechanic, and a mechanic never does as good a job as you do. Unless of course it's something specialised like machine work or pump/injectors.

I have the super power of attracting grease and grime. I can change a light bulb and can be covered head to toe in grime 10 min after a truck wash. The wrench gods hate me it will take me twice as long to fix something then any normal man. This is in no way saying I do not do my own wrenching but the wife has to warn the neighbors I will be working on the truck so they can take the kiddies out of ear shot
