2 years to retirement and you think risking the money you've saved into trucking is a smart move?
If you want to do it for something to do and (sort of) travel the country just drive for someone else. You'll make decent money and no financial risk (short of a crash). Trucking would be a good way to burn through a lot of your savings especially if you don't know what you're doing. And with 0 experience, no offense, you don't know what you're doing.

I have spent my entire adult life working for someone else, now that I am close to retiring and will have that security blanket to fall back on I am ready to start working for me.

How little or how much I know is the question. I can tell by your response you cruised through my post.

Um if you have enough money where you sound as if you don't really need to work for money, why don't you just find a nice old single axle pete and a decent fifth wheel camper and see the country side? Just what I would do if I didn't need to worry about money

I do appreciate some of you guys input, some of your replies were kind of comical and some .....well, not worth mention. When I said I had no experience its because it has been so long. I think a lot of people read to much into this and also make many assumptions without knowing my background. I have driven trucks before (in my past military life late 80s early 90s). I drove a 916 Military transport pulling a 50 ton 3 axel detachable neck lowboy trailer. I drove several other trucks but this is the closest to what I am looking to do in the future. I recently drove a 2016 Cascadia (Bob tailed). But just because I have done this, I don't consider myself experienced. The military was many years ago and the recent trip was just enough to shift up and down the gears, do a pre trip inspection and that's all. I am mechanically inclined, wrench all my vehicles. And no, I don't think I will become rich driving trucks. I do want to be my own boss as this will be my retirement job. I f I can make sufficient money to maintain my operational budget with out to much hassle and pay myself a decent salary I will be content. I am to young to just sit around the house, I enjoy driving and being by myself and making my own decisions.

I am retiring, not rich, LOL! I will be getting about 3,400 after deductions, health and dental benefits a month. I want to supplement my income doing something for myself.

Ah well good luck then I've only been at it a year and from what ive seen so far it'd be real easy to lose all of that in a month. But I get what you're wanting to do
