Haul boats; I've done it and it's ok. I met quite a few 0/0's that do that. Get a heavy duty pickup truck and set it up for hauling boats. Here's some with a sleeper kit installed. These kits are manufactured in Nashville,TN. Do it yourself or they'll install it for you.

With all due respect to the OP. Owner Operator and No Experience really don't belong in the same sentence. The simple facts are some people have more money then basic common sense. I mean no offense with that comment. Last year I had a friend who is an OO ask me what I thought about him buying a used Pete (I did not look at the truck and he only said Pete) that had about 23,000 miles on it at the time. I asked about the trucks history. Turns out some nitwit just retired from the Navy went somewhere and bought a new Pete. This person had NO CDL and knew nothing about trucks or the trucking industry. He did get that CDL but no trucking company would lease to him. He did find a driver to drive the truck and was planning to buy it, then that driver got into a messy divorce and that ended that. Truck sit for almost 8 months. This retired Navy person according to my friend lost all his life's savings on that deal. I know I will get screamed at and cussed for my next comment. However I am almost at the point now that the next time I hear someone with no driving experience start talking about buying a truck I am going to start picking up rocks and throwing them at this person.

They can but they need to take steps in learning how it works.

Most don't and they fail because of it.

AND as you should know, your security blanket can be yanked from you with one wrong move.

If that question was directed to me im going to invite you to go back and re read my comment. I was not talking about trucking in general.

OP, based on MY experience I give you somewhere between 10 to 36 months before you are faced with some tough decisions. I'm in your corner and because of this I highly recommend an Admin move this thread to one of the owner operator forums. However in all honesty I give you about a 10% chance you will still be in business after 5 years even if you find a company to lease on with. If your thinking well screw that I will get my own DOT authority, well you are going to find these brokers whom your life's blood depends will tell you to (insert really bad word here) off.
