THanks, Rookietrucker- Some want to make me out to be a company steering wheel holder and a bad man for considering DOT employment but them types you mentioned are out there and don't care if people die as long as they can get extra. Most are professionals but theres that eliment that needs hard time really.

Me an my step brother are fixing to start up a little trucking deal just 2 trucks for right now. Getting ones authority and paying the insurance is not cheap I can attest to that. Wanting to be legit is costly but its the only way I will roll these big wheels.
I do not understand with all the liability out there these days how folks get away without insurance and authority. :biggrin_25513:

I wasn't going to say anything but what the hell. ANYBODY that feels that they have to run illegal or without insurance is a CHUMP, Been pulling my own frieght and others for a lot of years being illegal will make you lose everthing in one bad move , but go ahead and tell me i'm wrong 'cause I can tell by your answers and statements here i'm not going to change your mind

now my friend i don't have a problem with you being a dot cop or any other kind of cop for that matter my problem is not with the dot officer its the ####### poitican that wrote the stupid laws that the dot cop has to enforce thats who i take issue with and why i won't comply with the new regs and no that does not mean that i run without insurance and authority that quite frankly is playing a fools game that you can't win in todyays times and i don't have an issue with safty never have it's the laws that are designed soley to get my money dam big brother he can get a real job
his self im not required by the constution to feed the goverment and by god i not, as far as you being a cop has nothing to do with anything.

It can be...It can suck sometimes too!
Some guys will haul anything, No matter how bad it pays!
    It sucks to be them.
I do not haul cheap freight! I will sit before I haul cheap freight and the lady that does my dispatch knows that and respects it and never offers me that crap!
$200+ was my gross and after all expenses including putting 20 cents a loaded mile away for maintenance and breakdowns I netted arout $75,000 for 2009 and this year I'm already way ahead of where I was at this time last year!

    What?

It could without proper planning and an all business attitude...I'm gonna repower my truck in a year or so and I already have the engine at the shop that I'm gonna install to replace the one I have. I got a decent deal on a 600 ISX and had the cash to buy it so there it sits waiting till I need it.
I already have a guy that runs dump trucks around town that will buy mt N14 for #### near what I paid for the ISX and I can do the swap in just a few days myself with the help of a buddy of mine so it won't cost a lot to do.
I always try to keep at least $20,000 in my maintenance account just in case. and when I get more than that I move it into a different account that I keep for the eventuality that I have to replace "old Black".

So...Do you live in a cardboard box? What...Do you have bed sheets tacked over your windows?

I work so I can have nice things, One of the nice things that I have is my truck and one of the reasons that I run my own is because I want it MY WAY! I refuse to drive a truck that looks like some "company #######" just to save a buck or two...If I can't afford to do it the way I want to then I'm in the wrong business and I'll move on. This business has been good to me for the most part for a lot of years, There have been lean years and fat years and the way to deal with it is PROPER PLANNING in advance!

That brings us to the "7 p's" that I have tried to live by all of my adult life...Prior Proper Planning Prevents Pitufully Poor Performance.

A $300 suit IS A CHEAP SUIT! I would never wear a cheap suit!
