All those repairs were to my old truck I turned in last month. Now I have a new truck.

I didn't check your other forum. But $2,500 to pay for a truck monthly is a lot.
Are you paying for the insurance too? Insurance rates for beginners are HIGH!
I pay $2,000 monthly for insurance and make equipment payments on top of that.
I didn't start with any money down, nor I saved. I was just lucky. I opened a few lines of credit that kept me going at the beginning. Now, I am getting rid of loans faster than I thought I would. I still have to pay back a lot, but things are moving forward.
I suggest subscribing to load boards and observe rates for different lanes. Then deduct your monthly payments: equipment, parking, insurance. You need to have a reserve for maintenance. And need to note what other costs are involved periodically to run under your own authority.
Just to operate it costs me $4,500 out the door on a monthly basis, one truck and one trailer, plus maintenance without any other fees to be compliant.

    D.Tibbitt and Dave_in_AZ Thank this.

Crazy Trucker has been around this site for awhile. He's content doing what he does, the way he's doing it.

I want to hear about the good'ol days! From what I've heard it was all 3-4$ per mile all day. I've also heard this from Australian veteran drivers while is Asia. Now $2 per mile is the golden number. I get a minimum of 2$, but I also have the risk of burning my face off with sulfuric acid to get it. A past coworker and friend who still operates in ND has his own authority and fuel trailers/train. He was getting around 5$ per mile 3yrs ago.

Operating expenses come in around 1.25-1.40+/- per mile. So how does trucking these days sound to you? Is English your first language?

There's a reason why we say we don't do it for the money we do it for the freedom. It is widely known around the industry that you will not get rich doing this and we accept that. Granted I can make the money I do as an owner operator running company for a few outfits in my area but then I give up all the freedom I have and that's just not worth it.

It might look about the same at the end of the year, but a truck is one of the best tax write offs you can have, freedom and my hatred of the IRS keeps me going
