Hope the original poster doesn't become too irate when he finds out that most current rates mean that pulling for someone else is mostly overrated.
Well, at any rate...it will be amusing to see just how badly I am later berated for this post with otherwise underrated feedback on an overrated topic.

Maybe it’s different here in the Midwest, but most of the people I know pulling a bottle for someone do pretty well. Some switch between propane and anhydrous, some only haul anhydrous when it’s busy and then do something else when it’s slow.

Someday soon, there will be no more company trucks. Companies are gradually giving up the biggest loss of their operations, the trucking. With losses mounting and over regulation, let the poor O/O handle it. I couldn't imagine what haz-mat insurance costs, but a pretty big burden on a new O/O. I'd be VERY cautious with this one.

Most companies that run hazmat require the o/o to run under their authority. The o/o isn’t forced to shoulder the $5mil hazmat insurance just to pull someone else’s trailer. Even the guys that have their own authority run the co-op’s authority or other trucking company’s authority when it’s time to pull a bottle. When my friend ran a bunch of hoppers he had a logistics company set up for loading other trucks. He got rid of that when he went 100% tank. Now if you pull one of his trailers you are on his authority and insurance, even if it’s only for a month or two when anhydrous is popping.
