I remember the OLD docks, used to have a pole on each side and when you back into it It would move the post back and the plate would lift up and when you hit the dock, the plate would drop down. You had to open your doors or the plate would hit you doors. Anyone remember them, Not sure what they were called.

Put you down near 26th and California, in Chicago, and go down a residential street for 3 blocks and find a 10ft viaduct, and have to back up for 3 blocks. It gets worse in the big city.

It looks like you could have drove right through, and come back in from the other direction. No blind side & less stress that way. Once you got your tail in, then you can get all squared away. Red is in & Yellow is coming back to line up.

There's a set of 3 of those at Johnstown Wire Technologies for shipping.

Work pretty good but they make a heck of a noise when they hit the trailer.

I have watched this several times, southeast corner of Fulton Market and Sangamon in Chicago, 2 docks, they only use the one next to the wall for trailers They have a guy come out to guide them in. Any dock in that area is a struggle.

Most of my loads drop to the street around there. Take it out the back with a forklift.

There really is no reason to be AFRAID--there are very few occupations that do not have challenges--tight docks(among other things)are just some of the challenges involved in driving--and like any thing else--the more you do it the easier it becomes--so don't let these things discourage you from something you may want to do--Also for all the newer driver's reading this--take note of what many others here have said--and look around and pay attention--many times--things are not as bad as they first seem
and after all this--one of the best pieces of advice ever given to me early on is--when in doubt--get out and walk--it may seem like a pita-BUT--it has helped me in many situations--as shown by other posters--in this particular situation a little better survey of the area may have shown a better(easier)way to handle this location--and as you gain more experience--other options will become clear to you--there are actually quite a few ways--this dock could be approached with less stress and strain--although they may have required a little more effort--BUT--would result in less stress to the driver and equipment--
So always take your time--don't let yourself get stressed--and think it thru--and as time goes on--it will become easier--or at least won't bother you as much--LOL
    Just my $.02
