All this, plus... Google Maps/Earth has been a God-send. EVERYTIME I go somewhere new I look up the address on Google, have a look and see what the access is like. Just like was shown in an earlier post, there may be an alternative access. I also look at the Street View (if available) so I know what the approach looks like from that angle.
As for P.O.S. docks, the ones I hate are where you have to blind-side from off the street, trying to get traffic stopped so you can get in. There's one in National City where you have to finish with the truck at almost 90* to the trailer otherwise the truck is blocking traffic in the street.
P.o.s docks ! ! !

All I have is a sky view of this one.
Chicago Metal Rolled Products on south Rockwall street....
The door on the left is what I have to back into....
There is only one way in there.... And that is off from W Pershing & Archer.
The railroad track is a 10 foot clearance.
It is a blindside back into the building with cars parked on the side of the road. Had to practically bump the 10 foot railroad bridge to get enough room to make a blind side swing.....
I've only been there once. So I do not know if they ever replaced the stop sign that I ran over on 37th place. -
Ahh Chicago--gotta love it--and I am constantly being told I'm nuts going to NYC so much!--LOL

Oh my god........... If I had to deliver to this place right here, I would have to just take the load and leave, no way in HE11 I would EVER get a truck into THAT ! ! -
Big Don and trucker_101 Thank this.

It is all a part of trucking. You will either learn to do it, or you will leave the industry. At least the driving part of it.
There has been a lot of good advice on here, but if I had to pick out the best, (IMNHO) it would be what ol'hand posted right above me here.
You CAN do this.'olhand, trucker_101 and Marksteven Thank this. -

Get there and park, send your "arrived to deliver" macro.
visit the shipping office and get your door.
then take all the time you need to get in. If it is over three hours, hopefully your company starts the detention pay... hehehehehee
