    We are a small company and only have 20 DAF trucks (16 x CF 85-430 ,2 x XF 95-480 and ,2 x LF 55-220).
    (also a 2 Volvo FH/FM , 2 Merc Axor/Actros and one MAN F 2000 , Nissan UD , Fuso , Hino).
I wanted to buy a DAVIE but we only need it about 2 times a month.
We could probably use it more often if we had one.
    My problem is the training.
Even the DAF guys here are not that good so how are they going to train my guys.
DAF parts guy said the unit will cost me about Euro 10 000 and licensing about Euro 500 per month.
I think that is high as apposed to similar units for Mercedes/Volvo etc but was still willing if I could get good training.

Just this week I had to collect a truck (CF85) on a Lowbed truck 1500 miles away so we could have someone with a Davie pinpoint that the power to the computer had a breakdown.
DAF said they could send someone to the truck in about 2 weeks and they needed a Euro 3000 deposit to start arranging this.
If it was a Mercedes , Scania , Volvo , Nissan UD , Hino,Freightliner,International I could have had OEM guy's look at is with in hours.
If I am going to keep running DAF I need to get something sorted here.

I can add that after placing orders for new wiring looms/harnesses DAF SA have finally said they have ordered some from DAF Eindhoven.
If they cant come through and help me with this after 2 years (That how long this has taken) I wont conciser replacing my older DAF trucks with new ones.
My point is that it has taken 2 years to get action on wiring looms , how long is it going to take for them to get their act together with a Davie.
Then where can I get good training.

King, from what you posted,it isn't Daf causing you troubles but the local Daf dealership.
I would contact Daf Eindhoven, tell them about the possible future sales and your intent to renew.
Make it a package............new trucks and the Davie and a solution for the slow local dealer.
I know that there is a deal to be done..........you just need the right person at Daf Eindhoven.

ps My old boss had dealership status, the only thing he couldn't do was sell new trucks to others.
But he can do his own warranty work.

Unfortunatley it all sounds too fimiliar , DAF. Have no back up service worth talking about even here in Europe, unless you're a big fleet operator they don't want to know about you, my trucks were brand new and still they wouldn't honour the warranties, I got in contact with DAF hq in Eindhoven and they weren't prepared to go over the dealers head, even when they broke down ( which they did a lot ) it was dafs policy not to pay for towing, even if they were good trucks that kind of backup service would break you. DAF also told me that if I serviced my own trucks the warranty would be void, that was part of the reason my local dealer wouldn't honour the warranty because I got them serviced at a different dealership, he said if the service wasn't on his computer as far as he was concerned it didn't happen despite having the service book stamped from ROLOR commercials ( another official daf agent ) in the south of the country that actually changed the filters when servicing, in contrast volvo/scania had no problems with me doing my own servicing providing me with service kits and service books to fill out so they could enter it into their system. There is no excuse for this type of aftermarket care, why would you have to know the right person at DAF hq to get your trucks sorted? (Kind of akward to achieve When like king youre in SA)That's the responsibility of your local dealer.

Thats why you've had good experience with DAF backup, as for the rest of us we could only dream of having it!

Yes I have had fairly good service from my DAF trucks.
    The DAF agents unfortunately not.
A simple issue is the way they handled a recall on a ZF heat exchanger on the intarder.
MAN, Nissan,Hino and Iveco contacted all who bought trucks from them and did a change from the aluminum to stainless steel for no charge.
DAF you had to ask about it and then they said they would handle the labor but you had to pay for all parts and consumables +- 2000 Euro was their special price.
I unwisely left 3 of them to long and that is a very expensive exercise.

Where I am from service is generally poor from agents.
I ran Mack trucks before and they were so bad (agents not the trucks) they almost bankrupted me.
The area we have been servicing over the last few years is so hard on trucks maintenance is high.
The DAF ,Scania and Volvos do better than the American trucks although the American trucks are more popular because of their simplicity and ease to repair.
Mainly electrical issues and the DAF has a problem with wiring looms when they get a few years old.
If I can get hold of new ones then this will go a long way in helping.
The truth is that the most reliable trucks we have run are the Japanese UD Nissans.
They however have very small cabs and our drivers are away in them for up to a month at a time.
Also UD Nissan don't come with air suspension which is required with a lot of the work we do.
Volvo here is special order if you want air suspension.
Here newer DAF trucks now come with Meritor rear axles if you want air suspension (mine still have DAF).

The best value new truck at the minute is volvo, my friend just got quoted 76,000 euro for a 520hp globetrotter xl, I shift, leather , cab& block heater, basically all the toys, a similar spec from scania or DAF is in the 100,000 region, that price can't be ignored and volvo backup is second to none,

    That is a great deal.
For that same truck here with out block heater (dont need them) but in 6x4 configuration you would pay 140 000 euro minimum.

    Scania man Thanks this.

76k euro for a new Volvo? That's a good deal. Equivalent here would be well north of $300k Australian

    (similar to king Q's spec - 6x4, I-shift, d13e5 540hp, XXL cab, 1380L fuel)

i already asked you somewhere but you probably did not seen

why air is so rare in SA , it is funny to see high end tractor(saw once some pictures of special edition of r620 with highline alcoa rims and plenty of equipment) on parabolic springs

is it problem because of roads or it is simply choice of market?

also here , especially now they sell fh classic with some ridiculous price

last year in sales here over 18t:
    1 man
    2 volvo
    3 scania
    4 daf
    5 mercedes
    6 iveco
    7 renault

just few years ago volvo was 4-5 in sales , they expand service network

Well a 6x4 would be more expensive but only by about 10,000, xxl cab would cost more again but I'd imagine another 3-5 grand.

i know trucks make ridiculous money in Australia , even 2nd hand , I've often thought about exporting right hand drive trucks out to there, I was thinking of sending my last r580 out there but I was told the top line cab was too heavy for the axle weight limits especially since it was only a 4x2

if ye ever want to buy a new right hand drive trucks I'll buy it in Ireland and ship it to ye, for a modest commission of course ahem ahem
