You do have to realize that it isn't all of the engine that is getting the fuel gains. It is the entire package that Eaton and Cummins put together. (previous post would not let me edit it)

I want all of you to put yourself in Guntoter's shoes for a moment,,,he just put himself on the hook for $100,000 bucks to run a "compliant, reliable and efficient truck" as stated by the dealer (a PACCAR dealer at that) that advertised and SOLD him the truck,,we are not talking about a 9 year old truck here,,if any of you went down to the car dealer and bought a "certified" used car for your wife to drive your kids to school in and it was leaving her stranded in the middle of a busy intersection 19 out of 20 days,,you know you would be in that dealership demanding the problem be resolved,,,but in trucking,we are hardly ever in the same state let alone, city, and these dealers KNOW this when they sell an OTR truck,,as for Guntoter,he is now stuck with a truck that does not perform as it should,,let alone generate enough revenue to make the payments, and PROVIDE FOR HIS FAMILY, like being an O/O normally does,,he is not the lone boy crying wolf here,,many O/O's I talk to have similar stories,,this was not the case 17 years ago when I got into trucking,,if you bought a new or newer truck (less than 2 years old),you had the cat's meow and you were set to have a long profitable relationship with that truck (if you took care of it and ran it right),,nowadays that is not the case,,many like him will go bankrupt over these truck "system" failures and repeated failed "repairs" by "authorized service centers",,,yes there is a problem here and it is NOT Guntoter's lack of good effort researching his purchase,,he was SOLD a pile of crap and the dealer was laughing when they cashed the check,,that's crooked business in my book,,,that dealer should thank his lucky stars that GUNTOTER doesnt live up to his name and leave that salesman with a few more holes than God gave that salesman at birth

As much as we dislike CARB,,they did a study on the performance and reliability of these systems,,and wanted to place a sevice and reliability rule in place to make sure this kind of stuff did not happen,,guess what, the truck manufactures sued and won,,EPA and CARB have warranty requirements on all cars sold that cover emissions related components to insure emissions outputs are within guidelines and to protect the consumer,,,need I mention VW??,,had CARB prevailed in the matter of trucks,,we would have systems covered under warranty for periods much longer,,
Airborne Thanks this. -
Mountaingoat,,,I take it you have never worked in automotive sales and service,,I've been on the sales floor and the service desk and the service bay,,,vehicle sales and service can be very misleading to the customers,,but that is another topic,,had that dealer had any real integrity, they would be locating him another truck of comperable value and exchanging it to him without cost,,instead of leaving him to have failure after failure, trying to find a shop that can fix it,,within the short time he has owned it,,,again,,if it was a 4 year old truck with 480,000 miles that he paid $49,000 bucks for it, and he was past his 1 year/100k mile limited warranty,,then I would be making no negative comments about the dealer,,,but we both know that is not the case here

Remember,,Guntoter stated that PACCAR told him his truck "was a problem child from the beginning",,that meant it had documented service issues,,and trust me,,,that dealer knew that before it was put on the lot to be sold,,when i worked in automotive sales and we took in a car that had repeated warranty work and still had issues,,that puppy either got wholesaled right out or it was advertised way below market and we washed our hands of it and sold it dirt cheap "as is/no warranty",,usually they went to the auction since the dealer did not want a bad car on the lot,,we called them Friday/Monday cars,,built on a late Friday or Monday morning,,when the lineworkers were trying to finish up and go home or when they came in on monday with a hangover

Good luck, if enough legal action takes place, it'll hopefully stir something up to make a change for the better.
Guntoter Thanks this.
