My point EXACTLY!!! Cummins and Navistar are two unwed people who are late in the game but they both need to marry to have a future together. Will Volks buy them at a later date. Maybe....that would also make sense.

So look at this. Paccar brings out a 13 liter motor and gives Cummins a "place" to offer 15 liter engine.
and look at this. Volvo has a 13 liter and a 16 liter motor and leaves Cummins a "place" to offer a 15 liter motor.
So what does Mercedes/Freightliner do???
Well they bring out the DD15 and kick the sh#it out of EVERYBODY!!! Sorry but the DD15 is an EXCELLENT MOTOR!!!!
So how has Mercedes/Freightliner left ANY "place" for Cummins to offer a 15 Liter option? Answer====They haven't !!!
So this is why I think Cummins MUST marry up with Navistar!!!
Again Navistar ...A good truck at 80% of perfect. Cummins= A great motor at 90% of perfect. So what happens next? Go figure!!!
There are TWO people left standing in their corners waiting to dance. Cummins and Navistar either dance together or they dance alone!
Like i said before. If for "speculate" reasons Cummins blows up tomorrow...well everyone is still ok...except Navistar. Navistar need Cummins. Cummins needs Navistar. 1+1=2 Simple math.
Think about it!!! -

This whole argument is like this.
Walmart and Target are competitors.Correct?
If WalMart purchased their "Displays" from Target, would you expect WalMart to keep buying a main component from a competitor for ever? I don't think so. -
So who thinks that Cummins wants to leave all of their future"growth" to their customers who also offer the same basic option. This is all about Marketing 101. How long will Cummins bet their future on the graciousness of their customers who are now ALL competing DIRECTLY against them with their own "IN HOUSE" products???
I rest my case. -
LOL. Gunz, you are a notorious match maker.
I did not make serious research on these companies' ownership. I just plan to purchase a truck.
About the "Paccar" transmission I have read some articles and you can see in the Kenworth T680 brochure. (Online too) They have a Paccar branded automated transmission specifically designed to use with the MX engine and made by Eaton. -
What a shame to hear these comments about DAF engines!! i have been driving DAF trucks with the 2800 and 3600 engines and they were superb trucks, even the DAF 95 with the 430 engine of the early 90`s were very good and reliable engines, i use to run all over Europe and Azia all the way to the border of Mongolia-China (Alma-ata, Tashken) sometimes driving at -40 winter weather and running the engine non-stop for 52 days at a time and no having problems with them, i`d park my last DAF at the parking lot of the company with 1 380 000 kms, this is close to a million miles and the oil comsumption was very moderate, like a quarter every 4000 kms and was still plenty of power, it seems that DAF being adquire by Paccar group has been not good for them, anyway, here in the US i have been driving a Volvo 770 with a 500 hp red top cummins and can not been more happy, cabover time is over and Volvo do have a very nice cab and comfort, probably the best of all american trucks, (no disrespect here), i did end my driving days in Europe driving a Volvo FH 12 420 hp and it was superior in everything to the DAF, even in fuel economy, do not know about Volvo engines here in USA, american drivers do not trust them but if they are the same like the ones they build in Europe, they are plenty of power and very good on fuel. it seems that the EGR norm has been a pain in the ##### for the engine builders althought in Europe Man, Mercedes and Volvo has been building euro norm II engines for years now with good results.Last edited: Nov 25, 2012
