There are so much DAF, in the first year they imported the complete engine from there. They are working on it, if you want to be the guinea pig, good luck.
I do not buy a Volvo engine, even less likely a Maxxforce. For the Detroit this is a big minus too.
I did not say they have a bad fuel economy, but not that great than most would expect.
And yes, a 15/16 liter can outperform the fuel economy of smaller engine if you force the small one outside of it's optimal power range.

    Thanks for wishing me luck.
But you can hardly call me a guinea pig as my truck is an 06.(and thus the MX is allready 6 years old)

Ya ure right, I didn't own an mx, I had the older engine which is reconized as a better engine than the mx, and no the problems are not fixed, I'm friends with Sheamus Nolan of Nolan transport, they are one of the biggest DAF customers in Europe, the only reason they buy them is the deal they get when buying in bulk, they maintain all their trucks themselves and DAF supply them with spare engines as part of the deal, why do you think they need a supply of new engines with new trucks? I haven't seen that since the days of bedfords and other ####e like that, Sheamus has often said they would break a small haulier because of the unreliability and brutal backup. And yes they often change engines at the 3-400,000 km mark.

How many miles was on yours when the engine was done? 200,000 wasn't it? In fact I've never seen one pass 600,000kms without getting smokey and I've only heard of one making 1m kms and that was wanked! Some pile of scrap!

I regularly see 15/16litre engines out-perform 13 liter engines, especially when those 13l are egr. No DAF Are not a bad truck on fuel but I've seen alot better!

US Volvo engines are not imported, they are US built and are not the same engines, the heads are different for a start

    Oram Thanks this.

I think T680 is much better truck. A lot more carefully designed and built, this is what I saw on the Mid America Truck Show. I think it will kill the T700 orders. Anyway, I am thinking about to order a 680 in December, so I am eagerly waiting any information on them.:yes2557:

I like guinea pigs, we need them. I have had a real one too. I purchased with 5-6 years life expectancy and lived almost 10 years.
As of the DAF/MX engine goes, the European guys, like Scaniaman know more about them. So far you are the only guy, who is happy with this engine. Still I wish good luck to you, use your engine long and trouble free.

    Not quite,there is this guy:

The difference between Scaniaman and transam pete/me is that Scaniaman has NEVER owned or even driven an MX.

Thank you and i wish you the same with your future Cummins engine.(from your statements it is the only engine that you haven't ruled out)

Long story short, my truck broke down. New ones are on order for November delivery. Company put me in a rental until new trucks show up.

My rental is a 2013 T-680 day cab with the MX and an 8 speed. Dont know any of the other specs.

Love the truck. Very nice. Rides like a Cadillac and is real quite.

As far as the engine, it doesnt have much power. Luckily I dont run any mountains so I dont have to worry about that.

The truck had 2,400 miles on it when I picked it up. According to the computer display I'm averaging almost 7.0 mpg. I will admit that I havent driven a standard in awhile so I am still getting used to shifting again and that may be some of the low mpg. My loads are 4 cars, normally lighter cars like Hondas, Nissans, Mazdas, etc. I would expect mpg's to be much better than this.

the shop says these engines wont get thier best mileage till after the overhead pm is done at 50000 miles
my kw t700 i have to reset the trip odometer daily to get a decent mpg reading
if i leave it for a week it just stays at 7,3 or so
    empty i get 8.6-9 loaded out at 79000 6.8-7.5
