Paccar is a light engine which most are specced with a lighter driveline I can load 45,000 lbs in a reefer which I had to juggle fuel to haul 43500 with a dd15/Cascadia .. Power wise and jakes were better on Cascadia but it was a 530 hp 15 liter paccar u have is only 485 fuel wise paccar is a full mpg better but that's comparing 2009 to a 2015 .. Because it's been trouble free so far 150,000 miles I wouldn't hesitate to buy another but at the 500 hp rating .. I've heard of issues with the early paccars before they went to the newer style injectors and better sensors

At my last job we had 2013 paccar engines set to 430hp, the only good thing about those were the MPG's. -
I'm a Company Driver. My assigned Truck 500k+ miles in the Shop, has a Cummins.
Paccar Engine 400k miles, in this temp Truck this week. Going Upgrade with Paccar, I'm the slowest Rig out there.
Hate Paccar Engine. Want my Cummins back!! -

I'm a company driver ... Much prefer the ISX 15!
I get 6-8 mpg with this pulling a 53' dry box ... Mostly I-40 and South of there, but do occasionally head up I-44 into the Chicago area over to Detroit ... Usually in the mid 7's (mpg) but then again 90% of our loads are under 20,000, with 45,000 in the box, it is low 6's and no guts ... With less than 5,000 in the box (30% of the time) I can bump 9 mpg ... Truck is governed at 67 mph ...DrtyDiesel Thanks this. -
the 2010 and 2011 paccar had a lot of emission troubles
that seemed to be rectified by the time the 680's came out
i was always having to manual regen my 2011 T700
even thou I had a Apu and didn't idle. And it still spent 3 weeks a year in the shop over emissions stuff
This cascadia with a DD15 100000 miles no issues
and the 2012 before that had codes for emissions fixed overnite on HT
give me a newer Cascadia every day with a DD15 -
It seems as though the 2013 emission engines are performing better all around.

I've driven two of them, both 450 HP in rental trucks. I had one for a couple of months w/a 10 speed & a 10 speed auto shift for 2 weeks. I hated them both. Not enough power, weird, non-linear throttle response & overall driving characteristics that seemed to change depending on the mood of the various sensors and ecm.
The co. I'm leased to has about 30 I believe. The main complaint seems to be that it's hard to find a shop/mechanic that really knows them and it takes longer to get parts. I wouldn't want one as an o/o for those reasons, plus I don't like the architecture of the engine. It's a European design, so most of the accessories are mounted on the rear of the engine and the cam comes out the back of the head as well. Great in a cabover, not so good here, where we almost all have conventionals.
My favorite emissions engine so far was my 2009 DD-15, but the 2013 ISX that I'm currently leasing is winning a lot of respect except for the oil consumption. If I can get it in-framed under warranty I would seriously consider buying it when the lease is up at the end of the year.DrtyDiesel Thanks this.
