Fleetguard and Baldwin. Perhaps others... those are the ones I've encountered.

Could you elaborate on what is required for the EGR cooler maintenance please?

I'm running an ISX that is supposed to be the very worst one.

So far it's been a great engine.

Everytime I read these forums however, I start the truck waiting for it to explode.

I replaced the DPF with OEM Cummins not long ago when the ECM said it was time.

I'm all about preventive maintenance, and a firm believer in it.

Any insight you could shed on the EGR cooler or the rest of the system would be much appreciated.

    Thank you.

With a Cummins, you really should be doing oil sampling with each service.. they have a tendency to eat through EGR coolers, and the oil sample results can help you nip it in the bud before it's too late.

Coolant in the engine oil. There's usually detectable warning signs way the hell before the EGR cooler goes completely tits up, if you look for them. There'll be trace amounts at first, and sampling can pick them up.

    I
I would start here if you have an 08-11 ISX. (The ISX with dpf, not def)

    Check out all 6 videos.

The EGR cooler needs to be cleaned once EGR temp is over 40 degree higher than coolant temp is during operation, but I usually just clean it every 250,000 when I clean the DPF and HC doser. I clean the Venturi tube, EGR Delta pressure sensor and tubes, boost sensor, Intake air temp sensor(all one sensor on ISX), EGR temp sensor, and both exhaust pressure sensors on our MX's every 125,000 miles. ISX only has one Exhaust pressure sensor. If any sensor is soot packed I just replace it. I blow sensors out with shop air and clean hard parts with carb cleaner. I also pull intake horn and steam clean it. This seems to keep the EGR system functioning much better.
